speaking of yarn love…

How was Rhinebeck??

I have never been although I hear my yarn makes its presence felt.

Would love to hear fiber tales of joy!!

  1. i bought quiviet. i am still not over it yet. i sniff and fondle it about every hour. mmmmm.

Ate lamb (yes, fine, shoot me, I eat lamb), and a sweet potato, and sadly no artichokes (they have flour on them). Also two apples, Cortlands, fresh off the tree. I signed a bunch of books, and bought some lovely yarns (besides the quiviet!!) and some soap, and a drop spindle from Goldings for my daughter, who almost cried when she saw it (what a kid!!). Had great times with good people, and can’t wait for next year!

I didn’t go, but I have a lovely silk thread warp on the loom right now that is making me felt pretty good.

I am so glad, denny no sniff

I am assuming it is a silk thread I would recognize that went not too mysteriously missing from my booth at sock camp.

My first trip to Rhinebeck was fabulous.  Only 2 and a half hour ride with my lovely 12 year old daughter (she knits, how could she resist!) over beautiful roads.  The vendors were great, it was really interesting to explain something I know nothing about (spinning) to my daughter.  I got help from some kind strangers. I LOVE that I learned about Rhinebeck all from blog posts and reading ravelry (I am a member, but just practice voyeurism.  I don’t understand how to do it!), made up my mind to go on the weekend of my husband’s birthday (he really is a kind, kind soul) and saw heaps and heaps of gorgeous yarn.  I got to experience Blue Moon drooling without staring at the computer screen and clicking from shaded solids to raven colors (you are a gifted person, Tina) and I am making a FUNKY MONKEY (bought one for daughter, too, but I may abscond with it….).  I pet a SHEEP!!  My daughter raced against border collies!! I have a picture with STEPHANIE!!  It was a great, faboulous experience.

Donna, that sounds just lovely. One of my favorite things about shows like that is the petting of the sheep.

What is the racing against border collies and how did she do?

    thank you Donna’s husband!

  8. I, for one, fell down hard at The Fold’s booth, and they were starting to run low on a lot by the time I got to them on Sunday, so yeah, I’d say your yarn is a present force!

Tina, It WAS lovely!! A group called PawStars (they rescue border collies) were demonstrating “bordercolliness” in the show arena.  There were hurdles for the dogs to jump over and at the end of the lane was one tennis ball for them to run and get and bring back to the starting line. They raced 4 dogs up and back against three kids in the other lane.  The kids had no hurdles.  Those doggies can RUN!  The dogs won!

It was my first trip to Rhinebeck and I loved it! I was so excited to see Blue Moon that I picked out my favorites, and got in line – a loooong line, over 40 minutes to check out. But had a great time in line! Talked to a woman who flew in from California, a young woman and her mom (who didn’t knit, but stood in line to hold a place for her daughter) – so even standing in line was fun!

sniff, sniff, I couldn’t go. I hear it’s a lovely festival, and I would love to go to it at least once in the future. It sometimes falls on my hubby’s birthday too and we sometimes visit friends on that weekend. I’ll figure out how to get there sometime!

I had a lovely time, a short wait on “the line” and a pleasant chat with the ladies accepting my cash.

I ended up with 2 skeins of backstabber (would have loved a third, any chance you have a stray lightweight for sale) and a skein of lenore.

Jabberwocky and petroglyphs caught my attention, but yarn budget was low at that point.

  13. I went straight to the Fold (skipping the Ravelry meet up, I might add) and I ended up with a rare gem that will be perfect for a pair of Fawkes, and two Mill Ends skeins Lucy (Lucy!!!! I wanted it and I never got it) and Gingerbread Dude (also wanted it soo badly). I’m really excited, loved seeing the colors in person, loved digging through the Rare Gems, and I even loved the line (met all kinds of cool people).

  14. Hey sniff, sniff Marcy (and all other sniff, sniff’s), think of all the extra KNITTING time you had! And there’s always next year! Start planning now! Save your pennies! Book a room (51 weeks out for most area hotels, I like the Kingston Marriott or Hampton Inn myself), buy plane tickets if you need them. I personally can’t wait!

  15. I also went for the first time this year! I skipped the long line at The Fold in the morning and only waited about ten minutes to pay on Saturday afternoon. I loved seeing all the Raven colorways in person and loved discovering that the colors on your website accurately match on my monitor even more – now I can order online without worry. yay!

This was my 3rd trip to Rhinebeck, and I was determined to get to your yarn right away as it sells so quickly. When I got to “The Fold” at about 9:30 I had to wait in line to get into their itty bitty display area.  But it was well worth the wait!  It’s so good to see the yarns up close!

  17. Tina, it was incredible! I got seduced by all my new Rav friends on the east coast, recklessly dug into money for Important Stuff to go, and it was worth every penny. You have *got* to get there sometime. (No, I didn’t get to The Fold, but the only fiber I got at OFFF was a skein of Rare Gems; so I held up my end there, right? [g] Had to leave some STR for the folks back east. Plus I took a skein each of STR Knitters Without Borders and Lucy with me for presents.)

It’s *huge*. Two days are not enough; I would’ve loved to have had a week. Trying to make up one’s mind is dizzying. I got a lb. of unbleached Tussah and 8 oz. of incredible black llama; some bamboo/merino/silk fingering wt. I’m thinking of stranding with the Kork I got at your destash sale last year; two different kinds of beaded yarn from a Rav friend who’s a new handspinner (the Tsock Tsarina and Jennifer were letting him sell out of their booth); a leaf kit from Tsocky and Jenn (and met them and got hugs, of course); plus bought a pair of alpaca gloves, because it was darned cold! The Rav party was great; I met lots of fellow Ravelers (many with cookies); I met Franklin and got a hug! – as well as his book; I waved at Stephanie; I introduced myself to Juno, who no doubt wondered who the heck the crazy lady was; in short, I had a ball. It was too short a time. I didn’t manage to do nearly everything I wanted to. We need to set up a PNW caravan to Rhinebeck every year.

    Hi,

I fell in love with your yarn! I bought three skeins and I’m trying to figure out what to make with them. I was so excited to see your booth. Great selection! Friendly people all around.

This is my fourth year going to Rheinbeck and it gets better each time. It’s really BIG! with lots of vendors, animals, and yarn. This fall is particularly beautiful. If I ever go to Chicago I’m going to try to make it over to the Fold. Your website displays the colors very well also. Thank you for your beautiful yarns!

  19. I was lucky enough to be in the Portland area during the OFF weekend this year and had the pleasure to shop in your booth there without a line, yay, knowing that I would be a vendor at Rhinebeck right down the aisle from the Fold and the ever-present line. Thanks for doing what you do so colorfully and for sending lots to Toni for us Easterners to see, pet and take home!

  20. Rhinebeck was divine! It is seriously the highlight of my year. It’s so inspiring to see everyone there wearing their projects. My friend and I make a weekend of it. We arrived to the fairgrounds on Saturday morning by 8:30 and by 12pm I was wiped out…had a little caffeine recharge and was ready for more. But it was FREEZING this year and definitely more crowded than last.

It’s worth the trip for anyone considering going next year. But book your room early. Every hotel/motel/b&b;fill up fast!

  21. Have no enough money to buy a house? You not have to worry, because that is achievable to take the http://lowest-rate-loans.com to work out such problems. Thence take a short term loan to buy all you require.
