If you build it they will come.

The resounding chorus back and forth between Steph and I for months now has been. You are not going to believe this. No really, you are not. I mean I know I said it last time I called, but really, you better sit down because well… you are just not going to believe it. I cannot even tell you… and it was on and on like this for weeks. It has been ridiculously exciting and crampingly terrifying all in the same moment.  Really all of these people are wonderful and I know that when we finally meet there are just going to be embarrassing moments. I see lots and lots of gushing. Don’t you?

“If you build it they will come”, this has been our mantra.  Quite a leap of faith and an apt description of how this feels from the inside out.

I really liked The Field of Dreams when I first saw it, but now it speaks to me in volumes. Every step from walking into the Oregon Convention Center to this stunning list of teachers, to the close to 8,000 on the mailing list, to what is next in building this sock knitting vessel, cradling this dream.

Building a dream at this point I would like to take a moment to thank our sponsors for helping us make this be all we want it to be.

Simply Sock Yarns, WEBS, http://www.skacelknitting.com/, Southwest Trading Company, The Fold, Abundant Yarn and Dyeworks and The Loopy Ewe.

You have our dyed in the wool gratitude, in my opinion way better than undyed gratitude.

As you read this list of talented knitting, spinning, crocheting, writing, designing teachers you will get a taste of what this has been like.

In my very fertile imagination there are many conversations that play out today something ike the ones Steph and I had. The ones that start with you are so… not going to believe this. Do you see who will be teaching at the summit?

We are thrilled, humbled, honored and honestly staggered to host this wealth of knit knowledge.

Like I just commented over on Steph’s blog…HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m SO there!!! Even if I can’t get into a class with any of the knitting geniuses on this list, I’ll be happy just being able to breath the same air! This is a real summit. Congratulations on securing this phenominally incredible list of teachers.

  9. OMG, Meg Swansen and Barbara Walker.  I have to find a way to get there, maybe drive somewhere and leave Thursday to at least have Friday Saturday, Sunday.  This is just completely crazy, all of these people in one place!  I have been to 2 StitchesSW, and at the last one I took a class from Meg.  I swore that if she ever went back to StitchesSW I would go just for her class, but she hasn’t been back since then.  I have to figure out a way to go.

so, just because I’m curious: is this going to be more like a big convention, or more limited like sock camp?  Are we talking space for thousands of knitters?

    November 30, -0001

Prices!  I have to buget for this and REALLY need prices ASAP.  Not to be a brat but I would like to know if this is going to be something I can afford or is it a pipe dream.  Thank you so much for putting this together!

My wife (nbgriz on Ravelry) and I are coming!  Plus our son (Aaron) and his girl friend (Brenna) are coming because we’ll be there!  Besides, they’re both Ravelry members, too!

I’m retiring in October, but I’d like to learn to how to knit sox beforehand.  Is there going to be a beginning sox knitting class?  Would it be starting on 3-X# double points and/or (progressing to) double-circs?

  17. WHOA!!!!  AMAZING!  And I must say that I am surprised to see Barbara Walker, since I don’t know I’ve seen her name much when I’ve looked at class offerings in the past!  But, of course I KNOW her name and have seen it lots all over my books!-lol!

How can I NOT go to summit?  I’ll have to keep my fingers and toes crossed on this one!

  19. Unbelievably AWESOME!!!!!!! I’ve got to make my way there…… I wonder how many hand-knitted booties I need to sell on Etsy? Does anyone know a good place to sell a kidney?

My heart is fluttering – this is all so very exciting!  But now I’m having a bit of anxiety…will I be able to get into a class?  I stalk the progress on ravelry, the sock summit website and the yarn harlot’s blog, but what if I somehow miss the class sign ups?  They’re sure to fill up quickly, right?  This is going to cause many of sleepless nights…

Nice work, Tina and Stephanie!  You two are making our sock knitting dreams come true!
