Soaring in color.

We are the beautiful Sunriver Resort at SOAR where everything spinning reigns supreme. Believe it or not this is my very first SOAR (a story for another time) and I am really excited and a little nervous. I feel a bit like when I was a kid looking forward to spending the week with my favorite aunt and her menagerie. You know when you have wanted something for a long time and then you get it there’s so much room for all of the built up hopes and dreams based on certain expectations to colour your experience.  Well so far it is exactly how I always dreamed it would be and I have not even had my first class yet. It’s just great to look all around and see spinning.

I do not have class today so got to explore and scope out the whole/vendor booth thing. When I saw my booth space I had a bit of a spasm. I mean I knew it was small but did not really have the luxury of giving it much thought and now I have to figure out how to fit all of this

and a little of this

and maybe this

certainly this…right?

and …probably some of this

into an 8X10 space.

Where there is a will there is a way right? Will I certainly have in spades. I have loved prepping for this and have not had such fun in awhile. I got to be a dyer again. I love being a dyer and where there is love and I have witnessed a whole lot of love here in this place of spinning fibers into yarn, all is possible.

It has been over 6 years since I fit into a 8X10 booth space, but if Morgaine and Toni can do it I certainly can.

Right?

Was the first shot silk hankies/caps?

You’ll only get the last one on display if Denny is willing to give up her pillow.

Wish I could join you but that will have to wait for some day. I’ll be calling Toni after she gets back to set up some lessons. Give everyone hugs for me please. And of course they must give you one in return. See you at camp.

I first heard about your yarn at a SOAR.  It may have been in Michigan, but can’t be sure.  I still wear the socks I made from your Socks That Rock I bought that year. Enjoy!!

  6. When only given a small space to fit a lot in, my solution has always been to build *up*.

Oh dear!!! I want so much of that fiber, especially the oranges. The sad thing is that I do NOT spin and have no time to learn before Christmas knitting takes over my life. As Marcy said before me, you can send me anything you can’t get into the space. Fiber and good friends-Enjoy!! Enjoy!! Enjoy!! Cheers and red wine, Hazel.

You so need to show us a picture of the booth! May you have a fantastic time at SOAR! (Granted I’m a smidge jealous of all you SOAR attendees…but I sucked it up…and pulled out the stash….readied the wheel….and will have my own retreat *grin* of sorts!)

So to ask the question…..are you maybe thinking of offering dyed fibers as a regular on the shop site? (other than sheep to shoe) Because I am so drooling over your photos!

Happy Spinning! and Happy Halloween smile

I will put up a pic of the booth as soon as it is a reality. Still working on it.  And Joann and I are working on getting the spinning fibers up on the site in a few weeks.

  10. How fun for you!!!  I bet you’ll love the classes (must be nice after Sock Summit to attend an event you didn’t have to plan!).  And that fiber…pretty pretty pretty!!  Have a great week!

I’m on my way.  Between the two of us I think we can cram it all it.  I like the idea of building up……we may need a ladder.  A 8 footer should do…..

If Cockeyed goes up a ladder I want photos. Also think photos of the both and whole SOAR crowd would be nice. Know you’re having a great time. Whoo Hoooo spinning fibers on the website. Bestest news and another reason for Marcy to bite the bullet and get her wheel. Me, I’ll just take some lessons first.

  14. OMG – The fiber is all so beautiful!  It made me wish I new how to spin!  I think I better get to practicing:) Resistance is futile!  Oh and I have one of your drop spindles I think the one with the spider:) Perhaps it will get me started on the right foot he he…

I feel a little stupid here as I don’t know what SOAR is.  I am new back to knitting after 25 years, and am a little nervous how it has taken over my life.  I quilt also so have a very full sewing room and know for a fact that a spinning wheel would send my hubby over the edge..LOL

I live in the middle of nowhere and spinning classes are not available and neither are appropriate fibers…wonder how you would choose what to do, and where to go?

I do love the colours Tina..have fun while you are there.

Hey Val, Also feel in the middle of nowhere here in Iowa. YouTube has lots of videos about spinning if you have good internet access. There could be a local spinners/weavers guild not as far away as you might think and in the summer most county and state (province) fairs have demonstrations that you might be able to find folks closer than you think. Also check for sheep and wool festivals or lamb shows in your area. Where sheep are often so are knitters and spinners. Hope you’re able to find some friendly folk not too far away. Happy Knitting and spinning. Alice

  18. Well I want everything in that third photo-and everything looks so absolutely devine!  It must have been quite the endeavor to figure out how to fit all your goodies into an 8×10 space, but you are all quite the witty women!  Sounds absolutely heavenly and I can’t believe you hadn’t been before!  And you?  Class?  WOW!

SOAR is the Spin-Off Autumn Retreat, hosted by Spin-OFF magazine staff and their parent company, Interweave Press.  It was my first SOAR too, so I understand the excitement/trepidation feelings, completely.  It was a fabulous event; I learned a ton, and I have a “thank you” to send to Blue Moon for my Jabberwocky spinning fiber, which I won as a door prize – woohoo!!!  (I picked that table at dinner specifically because of the fiber centerpiece.) grin

  20. Tina: I was at Purlescence last night, checking out the yarns. Got to your Peru. The one skein they had of Rooster Rock leaped into my hands, and no matter how many times I put it back, it absolutely insisted. I don’t know why; I don’t know who’s it’s for; I don’t even have the pattern yet, and the colorway itself is going to design its own on the fly. All I know is, no matter how much I admired anything else, that one skein and that one alone just made me feel–happy, to a degree I can’t explain. Jump-up-and-down joyful.

Now I can’t wait to knit it up and find out why and who it’s clamoring so loudly to be for! Lovely stuff. Thank you for creating it.
