Orders from sale and beyond.

We are working really hard to get everyone’s order in a timely manner. The holiday and the most recent plague have made this more of a challenge. We have brought in some temps to help with this.

We will have a whole bunch of the sale orders out as of this Friday.  We ask for your continued patience and to know that we really are working hard to get you your yarn. We do get it, Yarn… holidays… yarn!

Also for those of you inquiring about the 2010 sock club that information will be on the blue moon site at the end of next week. At that time there will be the ability to purchase Sock Club gift certificates for those of you that want to give or receive it for the holidays.  As usual January is the purchase time for regular sock club memberships.  No worries about getting in or being left out.  So far with the 2,000 cap no one has been left behind.

How is your holiday knitting coming along . I have 2 pairs of socks, i scarf , 2 shawls and a spinning project and… I am slow. What do you think my chances are?

I am optimistic and also have made some lovely cards I made that have a swatch and a snippet of yarn and a little story about the lovlely knit-gift that is coming their way. I know my time limits.

thanks for your patience!

p.s. The month has not one but two full moons. which makes December a Blue Moon month with the second one falling on New Years eve.  Doesn’t this seem special and maybe even a bit magical? I think we should celebrate in some way.  Any ideas?

Tina – I’m so far behind that having yarn show up on my doorstep could send me right over the edge.  Oh, wait, there’s the fondling of new yarn part.  Still, this time I don’t have an issue with being patient.

Dream state would be to celebrate New Year’s Eve and the Blue Moon with all the other Sock Club members in Scappoose. Realizing that is not going to happen. Maybe each state or area could have a gathering that day somewhere central and open to the public. Then sit around boggling the muggles minds by knitting in public. For Iowa I’d suggest Jordan Creek Mall. One of the restaurants around there must have good lighting. Any other suggestions? Hope the Blue Moon is wonderful. (and not snowed out) A

  5. You could have a Once In A Blue Moon special for just that day.  Like a limited colorway or a super price reduction on selected yarns.

  6. I think a good celebration of this month’s Blue Moon would be the availability of rare gems on the website on the two days/nights of the full moons – no choosing individual skeins – you can just ask for general colours like “reddish” “bluish” “greenish” etc…. because buying Rare Gems is something that could happen only once in a Blue Moon!

Other than that, I think an appropriate celebration will be to lift a bottle of Blue Moon Ale and indulging in some Blue Chocolates while knitting with Blue Moon yarn! Yay!

I love your luscious silk singles so much—thank you for getting it to me whenever you can.  This was my first year in the sock club—I think it’s especially appropriate to end the year with a blue moon.  Thank you for a fabulous year.

I have a few of ideas:

    1. Put all blue colorways on sale the two days of full moons.

    2.  Put everything but yarn on sale the two days of full moons (patterns, books, sock summit swag etc).

    3.  If you really want more ideas announce a contest for idea submissions.  The owner of the idea you pick to celebrate gets a prize (yarn, a gift certificate etc)

To celebrate the Blue Moon this month I am going to cast on a pair of socks on the 31st using the yarn I dyed in Port Ludlow. I plan to finish the pair before the next Blue Moon (which looks like it is in August 2012).

I agree with the Rare Gems suggestion.  And the Blue Moon Ale suggestion.  Thanks for all you do!

  11. Ooh, I like the Rare Gem suggestion, too. On a local note, DH and I are having a Blue Moon New Year’s Eve party. We’ve got Blue Moon beer, Blue Moon wine, and there will be much knitting of Blue Moon yarns. Happy Blue Moon!

Lord knows I always think any Blue Moon yarn is a good idea and a blue moon special is right up my alley…but i was thinking a Blue Moon knit night.

A real one. Like a video conference, skype-ing thing. Call me crazy. And I have no idea if it’s possible, but i skyped with Leslie/Tapmouse and was so giddy. It was a blast! It was like sitting at the bar at Port Ludlow knitting, minus the Port Ludow part.

  23. Another for Rare Gems offerings or blue yarn sale/special blue yarn on the day of the moons…

Or a Blue Moon Ale. 😀

  24. I’m almost totally dome with my holiday knitting.  Just need to finish a sock for my mom, and a toy for my parents’ dog.  Almost there.

I think the rare gems idea is great, but I also don’t think it’s realistic.  It would be incredibly hard on your servers.  I think it would be fun to have a sale on colorways containing blue.  Or on a few certain blue colorways.

It’s so cool that the blue moon falls on New Years’ Eve.

How about something a little more manageable on short notice?  Maybe a blog contest of some sort with a Random Number Generator picking winning entries?  Winners could receive whatever BMFA chooses (but those Rare Gem ideas sound pretty cool for those of us who never get to see them in person!)

  26. Kelly #

I also like the idea of the rare gems being made available for us to purchase online. And being able to request just a general colour (blue or red) is cool. It makes it more of a surprise and just that much more special. Of course it would mean more work for you at a very busy time of the year, so this may not be possible. Maybe if you were able to develop a special Blue Moon colourway or a special Blue Moon pattern, that would be available only during the month of the blue moon? It’s probably a little late to do this right now, but maybe for the next blue moon! Until then maybe if we all got together (physically or virtually) and did some knitting or crocheting with Blue Moon yarn, and toasted the new year with some blue refreshments (I personally am thinking along the lines of blueberry cheesecake or a blueberry-banana-orange juice smoothie)!

How about keeping it simple for you and have a drawing for a free 2010 sock club membership? You could draw from either past participants or customer e-mail list or a sign up comment on your blue moon fiber site. That certainly would happen only once in two blue moons.

I do like the idea of every state having a Blue Moon knitting party but sounds like it could be a bit of work for someone during a very hectic time.

The night skies have been amazing lately with the clear skies or occassional clouds and the bright moon. I have seen all sorts of deep blues, greys, blacks contrasting with the white if the winter moon. I almost tried to photograph some of them and send it to you but that is beyond my current skills. As always thanks for your creativity.

I vote for the keeping it simple for you and have a drawing for a free 2010 sock club membership. I think the easiest way would be a sign up comment on the blue moon fiber site and then you draw from there…kind of like the poem contest…I enjoyed that one!

Having come to sock knitting relatively recently(the year before Sock Summit), I’m missing bits of information that everyone tosses off casually in their comments. One of those bits is “Rare Gems”. In a Toronto yarn shop, I had bought a skein of STR lightweight yarn labelled Rare Gems(it was mainly blue) and I used it to knit a pair of socks during Sock Summit-my solidarity gesture. I also knit a pair using the Scaponia colourway. Now it seems that Rare Gems is NOT just a blue colourway. Please explain. It’s driving me nuts. Cheers and red wine, Hazel.(and now back to Lenore and the Thraven colourway-Christmas is getting too close for knitting comfort).

Oh! Hazel, “Rare Gems” are all the wonderful things that happen from Blue Moon Fibers..so many things are said and shared among the many knitters, helping to make our lives so much richer..So, jump on the band wagon, read the blog, buy the wonderful yarns of all the beautiful colors from our world around…It is great to read about each one that come up on this blog..it helps us to reach out to other Knitters young and old..

    Happy Holidays…

I have to admit I do like these ideas for the Rare Gem sale, we do have to keep in mind that this is also Tina and crew celebration as well. How about we not make them work her butts off another day of the week. How about instead get to know her. (if you are up for it) What I mean by this, is we all of this is get an account on Stickam.com. You will need a computer, or webcam, Blue Ale beer and your Blue moon yarn. Have a chat with the woman that started it all. maybe a two parter, we could have an hour or two set aside on each day so that everyone would get a chance to get in on the action. Could you imagine just for the people that do get a webcam seeing everyone that owns a blue moon hank as well, all across the USA or world in one happy family. You don’t have to have a webcam, That’s if you want people to see you live in the comfort of your own home.

Now I’m not to sure how stickam works, someone will have to look into that if this is the way we would all like to take it. this is just one idea

Tina, why don’t you take the Blue Moon off?  Relax, knit, have a beer and put your feet up.  Realistically you have had a busy year from what I can tell and I haven’t been here all that long.

Its not all about sales…although it is all about yarn!

    Happy New Year,

    Val

Hey Hazel Dixon, Pat wasn’t totally complete in her answer. “Rare Gems” are one off colorways. Sometimes it’s a way to use up leftover dyes. Sometimes its single or multiple skeins of a colorway that got goofed up in the dyeing process and then Tina overdyes them. Some times they are just dye experiments that don’t quite have repeatable qualities. What ever they are the same first quality yarn that you see in the regular named colorways.

There is also “Mill Ends” which are not quite up to Tina’s standards. Also a rare thing to get hold of in the world outside of BMFA.

Just letting you know we’ll be having a BMFA blue moon gathering in Iowa City/Coralville. Still working on the exact site and time but you can check it out at the Crazy Girl Yarn Shop Ravelry group forum. Just a group of BMFA sock club folks with the rest of their LYS knitters getting together to celebrate the blue moon and New Year’s Eve. If we can figure out how to not get locked out of the building the store is in we may wander the area for a bit of Knitting In Public.

I’m with Val – you all should take the time off and enjoy the season! smile I don’t know how you have all done it – 2009 was a mega year for BMFA. And totally cool for me as a spectator. In my delusional…er perfect world I would have been able to attend all your rockin’ events.

Soo….any hints to the next Knot Hysteria event? (I’m hoping for 2011, as my new forever wheel should be here by then, and you gotta celebrate that with more fiber of course!)
