Poncho days…

We’re doing some much needed, long over due spring cleaning. Yesterday we pulled out all the samples we’ve ever had, like ever had. Since blue moon was just a twinkle of a dream.  As we progressed in this project and uncovered more and more samples I kind felt a little sick.  And for very brief moment I was seized with panic, a big fat fear that maybe I was cleverly disguising a hoarding problem in the guise of running a fiber business.  Noo… I don’t think so.  You need samples to sell yarn and you need yarn to sell yarn and you need ….  Nope just running a textile business, that’s what I thought.

That’s right.

We are cleaning out after all.

This is what happens where you have no time right?

That’s what I thought. Phew. Was a bit worried for a minute there.

It’s been great fun to go through all of this.  A little knit trip down memory lane. We found some really cool knits that we’ll save and resurrect. We found some knits that I can’t even believe I had the nerve to knit much less sell and they did sell well. So I’m blaming you.

We found every incarnation of scarf imaginable. Crazy amount of scarves, shawls and ponchos. We must have knit samples in every yarn I had at the time.

Remember the ponchos?  All those ponchos.

Come on admit it. You know you knit them. They’re probably buried in you closet somewhere.

Time for a rummage through the closet?

Maybe we need to have a poncho day. Can you see it?

We certainly have a knit dress up bin. ohhh a new camp activity.

I also found this piece of loveliness. My first dye, spin, knit job. It’s a seriously soft, cozy angora blend I did from my bunny Willa and I am going to find the perfect button and wear it all next winter around my neck.

  1. I just got rid of any knitted item I don’t wear. No more chunky sweaters, PONCHOS, items embellished with fun fur (seriously. SERIOUSLY!?!?). It was freeing.

Any cute baby/toddler sweaters can come this way, though!

Did you find the Michelin man sock that brought so much glee so long ago? sniff.

  3. That’s funny… I just pulled out my bag o’ samples (just a bag, thank the Buddha!), and stared at my back-closet shelf of Sweaters That Don’t Quite Fit But They’re Samples So I Can’t Get Rid of ‘Em, and thought…

“Just put the bag back on the shelf.”

    Sigh.

I love the fact that you have a bunny named Willa. That was my mother’s name (though she had the misfortune of having her parents spell it Willia having her named after her grandfather- long story). Anyway it’s lovely.

I don’t know what it is, but it has all my favourite fall colours and it seems to have little pine cones(?) hanging off the points. It’s picture # 2. Those are the colours I absolutely have to have for my first ever cardigan-the top down, wrap cardigan for which I already have the pattern. Can you remember what colourways you used? And by the way, what is it?-a poncho? a rug? a blanket? I’m in love with the colours. Oh, Tina, Tina, Tina, assuage my desire!!! Cheers and red wine, Hazel.

So, ahem, speaking of digging around for obscure fashion, you wouldn’t happen to still have the poncho pattern designed for Rio would you?  I still have a hank of the stuff and have been at a complete loss as to what to do with it, other than put it in yarn jail so it can’t get tangled in itself.  The vexing little thing even manages to involve it’s neighbors in it’s twisted attempts to become and un-untangleable labyrinthian knot.

What I love most about this post is seeing all my BMFA friends. Hi Gang. Love you all! Big hugs from Iowa. Miss you all. Have a good time at the Gathering.

Now as to ponchos. No I have never knit a poncho. After and before my serious knitting times. So there. Another knitting secret revealed. I will admit to Fun Fur scarves by the dozens but none left as I gave them all away.

  9. Hmm, reading this made me remember one of my first knits for Kim was a poncho and I “think” it was done in some of your yarn.  I’m going to have her find it and I’ll bring it for show and tell.  wink

Happy belated.  Hopefully you spent your time doing exactly what you wanted to do.  I think that’s warranted one day a year.  (I think it’s warranted more often, but it’s awfully hard for Moms.)

What fun tromping down memory lane, even if some of the pit stops were cringe-worthy.

Hi Tina!  Hope you and yours had a lovely holiday weekend.

Your post makes me think about all the store samples I have too, and how I just want to avoid thinking about it for another year….
