Seasonal Colour Shift

It’s the perfect summer day here. It’s just hot enough with the ever so slightest breeze and air that smells like sunshine.

That said, believe it or not, it’s almost the end of July. How?  We’re just now getting typical sunny and warm summer-type days here, so, of course, I’m having a hard time adjusting to this one. Luckily our autumns are usually wonderfully warm, filled with sunny days and gads of wicked color. So there’s a lot to look forward to, I’m not going to be too upset by the drawing nigh of our current season. What it also means is I get to create color for my favorite season and holiday, Halloween. I’m working on a Wicked Woman hue (mwahahaha) along with adding to the Scum series. I’m considering a zombie or two also. Mythical and maybe historical zombies. What do you think? Too Much? Who would you like to see in un-living color!

As we do, in order for new hues to have room on the great wall of color, some of our other colorways have to go on a wee vacation.

Here is the list of those colors that are packing up for a much needed rest. They leave on the 31st of July.

A Paler Shade of ST-1 Alley Oop Bejeweled

Ok. I am off to do more stash busting for the sale. I am slightly ashamed to admit this, but, nonetheless, here it is: I have a small stash of un-dyed, nylon eyelash. I know… In my defense it takes color like a dream and is fun as hell to dye. We just need to figure out what to do with it afterwards…

Happy 26th day of July!

When it’s hot the chickens take to the woods.

Good Bye Jon Lord

We all came out to Montereax,

On the Lake Geneva shoreline.

To make records with a mobile,

We didn’t have much time.

But Frank Zappa and the Mothers,

Were at the best place around,

But some stupid with a flare gun,

Burned the place to the ground.

Smoke on the water and fire in the sky.

Smoke on the water…

Jon Lord, co-founder of the rock band Deep Purple, exceptional keyboard player, and co-writer of what in my humble opinion is one of the best rock anthems of my time (I bet everyone recognizes that opening riff,) Smoke on the Water, died yesterday.  I know, very sad.

As I was drifting off to dreamland last night, taking a little trip down memory lane and listening to Machine Head, I felt like I needed in some way or maybe just my own colorful way to play homage Jon Lord. I just felt like I didn’t want his passing to be some brief forgotten moment tucked into the corner of business as normal the next day.

So…

They burned down the gambling house,

It died with an awful sound.

(Uh) Funky Claude was running in and out,

Pulling kids out the ground.

When it all was over,

We had to find another place.

But Swiss time was running out,

It seemed that we would lose the race.

Smoke on the water and fire in the sky.

Smoke on the water…

Starting today Tuesday the 17th of July at 3:00 pm Pacific Time until Thursday July 19th at the same time, we’ll be spreading the Deep Purple love by offering 15% off on all the purple hues in what ever fiber type it is offered in on the Blue Moon website.  The code is DEEPPURPLE.

We ended up at the Grand Hotel.

It was empty cold and bare.

But with the Rolling truck Stones thing just outside,

Making our music there.

With a few red lights, a few old beds,

We made a place to sweat.

No matter what we get out of this,

I know I know we’ll never forget.

Smoke on the water and fire in the sky.

Smoke on the water…

Thank you of all the crazy good music Jon Lord!

Barn Sale and Dye Party

Blue Moon Barn Sale and Dye Party!

image

When: August 4th and 5th 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day

Where: Blue Moon-land 56587 Mollenhour Rd. Scappoose, Oregon 97056

In the not so recent past, it has been our tradition to have a huge inventory reduction sale in November. We refer to them as Barn Sales, not because we are selling our barn, but because that is where we tend to hold them. We usually rent out the barn at the quaint Scappoose Creek Inn and fill it with yarn and knitters for a day. Gads of fun.

However, because of the amount of cool fiber shows and the Knot Hysteria retreats it has been hard to squeeze in a barn sale the last two Novembers. I was thinking about all of this a few days ago as I was trying to find the Shetland fleece I hid from myself at the back of the storage pod when it hit me (A blinding flash of light kind of moment, which was great cause there might be more than a few fleeces in that pod.) why am I so married to having it in November? I mean really November doesn’t hold the magical mystical corner on sales.  Why not have it in the summer, before all the wooly goodness that is Fall hits?

Hmm… I think this might be a really good idea. Since it is summery and warm we could actually have it here at Blue Moon and…. since we’re having it here we could add in dyeing, which makes the fun twofold. Sounds a bit like a party doesn’t it?

I ran all of this by the team on Monday and everyone was on board with the plan. So my dear knitters here we are… on the first weekend in August we’re opening our doors and the pods and all kinds of boxes and bins. Everything will be marked down. We’ll have yarn, fiber, fleece, books, tools, fibery odds and ends, and maybe even a wheel or two. It’s time to move some “stuff” out to make room for the exciting new yarns coming our way in the next few months.

On the dye end of all of this we’ll have a nice selection of blanks in various blends you can purchase to dye. We have silk hankies, lovely spinning top of all kinds, and yarns in just about any flavor you can think of. The pricing of course will vary by type and weight. We’ll have painting stations, pots for dipping, and kettles too. We’ll have an indigo bath going and maybe a few lichen pots too. There’s no end to the color fun we can get into. So much so that some of us (me) are not going to want it to end.

You can come out browse the goodies for sale and head on your merry way or you can pack a lunch and spend the day dyeing, visiting with us, each other, and of course the chickens.

If you plan on dyeing we ask that you R.S.V.P. at {encode=”info@bluemoonfiberarts.com” title=” “} so we can prep accordingly. Also, please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a spatter or two of dye on or bring an apron.  Dyeing is a colorful messy business (especially the way we do it.)

I think that just about covers it. There’s not a megaton of parking here and it’s a little off the beaten path so we recommend carpooling. If you have questions at all please don’t hesitate to ask.  As usual we can be reached at:

It’s a party!
