rebirth

A tree falls… and after a time, washes up on the beach, where each nook and cranny is polished by sun, sand and surf to subtle shades of pearlescent grays, barely there blues and creamy beiges and then becomes home to silvery green lichens and golden mosses of the most subtle and stunning hues.

Color Studies

I will sometimes choose a palette of hues to work within when I dye, usually 3 to 5 colors that I just play within the range they provide me. I’ll start by using them all in one skein. I place them where they appeal to me the most and where I think they’ll work together the best in stitches or  (as sometimes happens) just where they tell me to put them. When color talks it’s important to listen. I’ll then break them out and use all the darker ends of the spectrum and then all the lighter ones. I might even be so bold as to pick out some solids and layer them for undertone and texture. I might shade part of the skein and tint the other half . Who knows…  What’s so great about dying within a specific palette for me is, that I usually start out with a very clear attainable vision, that I successfully create, but often, it’s what I’ve  learned getting to that color vision that held the most magic and depth.

The Hope of Spring

Brings happy and bright returning colorways like Easter Scramble.  Yes, this is what I think scrambled Easter Eggs would look like, far too pretty to eat.

The colorways they are a changin’.

In a, where the hell does the time go moment, I realized yesterday that it’s the middle-ish of January. So crazy how fast time moves. What this means for us is, it’s time to kiss some of these winter hues goodbye, (for now) and send them over the rainbow for a chroma-cation.  Hard working hues that they are, they deserve a wee rest, don’t ya think?  Also…we kind of need the room. The wall is seriously full right now of tonal choices and we need to make space for some new hues to join the merry band of colorways. Don’t tell them that I told you this but it also makes the barn ladies kind of cranky when there’s basically no room on the wall to hang the yarn. They have a point.  So here’s our list.  We’ll be taking them down from the website on January 22nd.

We’ve done a huge and I mean HUGE clean out and reorganization. It’s pretty great. Lots of room to move and work and all that stuff that accumulates has found new homes. We’re quite the giddy bunch these days with all the freedom this cleared space gives us.

Big wide open door of possibility!!
