It’s my BIRTHDAY and I’ll dye what I want to….

dye what I want too….

dye what I want too…!

It’s my birthday this weekend and I feel the need for an all out celebration of life this year  mostly because I am still here to have a birthday.  Also because I am turning 59 and well…it all feels significant!

So we are going to have some fun!

Before we get going with all the birthday fun and games I want to say, I AM SO GRATEFUL to be here!  Thank you powers that be! Thank you dear friends and family and thank you wonderful knitting family! I am truly blessed.

Hello 59, I am so flippin’ glad to see you!

Okay let’s party!

We are going to celebrate all week long from this Friday to next because I can’t contain all of this joy into one day or even a three day weekend.

Of course, right off the bat, I made a special colorway to celebrate the moment, since it’s kind of what I do. I made super special birthday speckles.

I started with my best color friend pond scum and made little drops of scummy goodness all over the place, then I grabbed some sassy rhodamine to spice the pond up a little bit and then, worked out from there with whatever struck my twisted little color loving fancy. I wanted it to feel like a ~ party in a skein ~ and I think it does. I am going to cast on some birthday socks sometime this weekend.

In keeping with the “It’s my birthday and I’ll dye what I want to” theme, we have put up on the Blue Moon website for this week only, most of my very, very favorite colorways. I will tell you it was hard to choose and I know I probably hurt a hue or two’s feelings by leaving them out but there are only so many dyeing hours in the day.

Maybe our first contest should be what do you think my top ten favorite colorways are? hmm… I’ll think on that while I tell you what else we have planned.

See these beauties???

I have brought in another of the short run yarns I promised this year, specially priced for your knitting pleasure.  This one is a lovely superfine, superwash merino. La Grande is seriously soft and lofty. I can see this yarn in so many applications from scarves to sweaters but most especially baby knitting!! So, so soft!  We got quite the deal on this one and of course are passing that price on to you at 15.00 a skein!

What’s a birthday without presents? Starting right this very moment there will be a give away of some sort everyday until (and including)  Friday June 3rd. So stay tuned for ~ Birthday Give Away Shenanigans ~ which will range from easy-peasy to hoop-jumping-hard.

Today we are gong to start off on the easy-peasy side of the spectrum which also just happens to be one of my  one of my favorites.

In the comment section of this post please tell me what you favorite color is and why.  It does not have to be a lot of information, it can be as simple as how you feel you look in it or how it makes you feel to be surrounded by it or it is the color of your favorite flower.  I will choose one of your comments and you will win 2 of my fav, fun coloring books!!

Mason Dixie Knitting and Cotton and Steel.

Okay that’s enough birthday excitement for the today.  I have to get back out to the barn to work on some super secret colorways. Some days I feel like a little bit like and undercover dyer! The dye spy? Hmm…

All of you waiting to hear about the availability more of the Santa Rosa KAL Marine Silk Kits I am sorry for the delay. I do not want to put more up for sale quite yet. If you are interested you can drop us an email and we can put you on a wait list.  Thank you for your patience!!!

Congrats to joogle for for winning in the fav song contest. Please contact and she will hook you up with your book and yarn!

okay off to the barn to make a little more color magic a s a 58 yr old. mwahahaha!

Happy Friday!!!

My favorite color is green. Most favorite green is jewel or emerald green. But the world of greens are all about life – the very sustenance of life on the earth.

    Enough of that. Just green.

Purple! When I first got a bedroom to myself, I asked to decorate in purple and white. Then my high school was built, and those became my school colors. Purple in all its glory makes me very happy.

Happy Birthday fellow Gemini! My birthday is tomorrow and I will be 57! I feel like I am 35! I just wanted to let you know that I was in a bit of a grumpy mood (due to work) and when I saw your email and read your blog, I realized life is beautiful because I knit! Thanks for the reminder!

Happy, happy 59th birthday(mine is back in the mists of time). I guess I’ll have to order a skein since it’s so special. What pattern to you intend to use?

My favourite colours are corals and peaches(in semi solids) and lovey dovey in a multi colour wave. If I can’t have corals then I go for turquoise.

Cheers and white wine, Hazel.(look for your card on Sunday).

My favorite color is pink! Being a feminist-wannabe, I fought against this a long time. I now recognize that I have a gut level reaction to pink yarn that no other color brings forth. Pink yarn calls out “Nancy – buy me!!” “Nancy – knit me!!”

Well I told you a lot of things, but I didn’t tell you why Coral is my favourite. It’s because I sent you a piece of my sister-in-law’s favourite tee shirt and said I wanted that colour in yarn. By the time I got to Sock Summit 2011, you told me you had the colourway and you were trying it out on different bases. I was totally thrilled: one because I was speaking to you in person(such a fan girl) and two because you’d actually done what I’d asked. My first BFL sport in Coral became my first top down, raglan sweater. Thank you, Tina.

Yay for turning 59! I’ll be following you in mid-July and like you, I’m feeling like “Holy Cow! I’m almost 59!” I’ve lost far too many dear friends who haven’t made it this far! Although yellow was always my favorite for decades, once I hit my 50s, I embraced Purple, Purple, Purple as my go-to color! I think it has something to do with “When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple!” I decided long ago, I wasn’t going to wait until I was old for anything…seize the day and sport the purple! Happy Happy Happy Birthday to our darling, darling Tina who’s brought us all so much joy and such scrumptious yarn!

I love colors, I really do, I love all kinds of colors. But if I had to pick just one… ohh this is so hard… it would probably have to be pink. I’ve never met a shade of pink I didn’t like, be it soft pale pink, hot fuchsia, or Barbie pink. Barbie and Pink… it’s a match made in heaven!

Pink is not just my favorite color, it’s my… SIGNATURE color!!! I’ve been a girly-girl princess from day one, so naturally I gravitated to pink from an early age. Today it manifests as a room full of every variety of pink yarn you can imagine to a pink call phone and even pink hair!

My favourite colour, wow that’s hard! I choose a rose quartz pink. It fills me with peace.

    Happy Birthday 🙂

First of all, Happy Birthday! Isn’t it great to be alive?

My favorite color is green and my favorite green of all time is POND SCUM and its variations like Spawn of Scum. It’s the color that lead me to Blue Moon. And the name is so appropriate it makes me smile every time I see it. I have started to use it when someone asks me my favorite color. “Why, Pond Scum,” I reply. LOL

Purple, Purple, Purple, do I say more? Yep it’s purple. All shades, but my favorite is smoky purple haze and eggplant purple. All time favorite. It just talks to me and boy do I have alot of purple yarn. I buy things that I totally don’t need just because its purple colored and it isn’t even yarn…I think I have a problem.

Green. I love visiting our wonderful National Parks and am always amazed anew at the many, many shades of green in nature’s paint box. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday! This getting older is not for the faint of heart but the alternative is not anywhere I want to go. As my mom used to say “it’s a great life if you don’t weak’n”. Wishing you a wonderful day and all the best in the coming year.

Happy Birthday!! I am not far behind you and am enjoying every year more than the last. My favorite color is “fog”. I find it mysterious and comforting all at the same time. It changes everything it touches and makes everything magical.

Happy Birthday! Orange makes my heart sing! Especially the earthy rusty kind. I just purchased a can of it to paint my new Little Free Library that I received as a gift for *my* birthday!

My favorite color is green. What can I say, I’m a redhead. We look good in the jewel tones.

My favorite color is RED. I like most all reds. I can’t explain why, but it makes me happy, especially when mixed with pink or orange or BOTH!

    So, red.

P.S. Happy, Happy Birthday Tina. You should celebrate for as long as you wish. I mean, look at me – I have been celebrating a 2-month-long birthday season for the last 14 or 15 years. 🙂 🙂 🙂

it seems we Gemini’s rule ! (a bit ) I am 53 on 7 June, so on my way. Naturally as a Gemini I have to have 2 favoritie colours – aqua and lime – to the extent that I have armchairs for each mood, 3 and cardigans in both colours and the sock club Dragon Song made me grin for days. Colour and mood are about abundance and letting light and joy in – so I love your birthday skein.

Have a fabulous prime birthday. I just celebrated my 53rd. I will have to wait 6 years for the next prime; 59.

My favorite color is a rose; the Peace Rose. The combination of the pale (sometimes not so pale) pinky, orangey peachy yellowy all mingly together in one beautiful bloom…mmmm. As a child I would futilely try to choose the most beautiful bloom on the bush.

This post was full of fun stuff!! I have lots of upcoming nieces and coworkers’ babies to knit for. My cart is FULL of the La Grande.
Also, though I only color once in a while, I love coloring books. I’ve been eyeing that Mason Dixon and I love Cotton and Steel fabric. I didn’t know they had a coloring book!!
To your actual question: my favorite is a jewel tone purple–more on the magenta side than the iris. Though a good mustard yellow has rarely not called my name.

    Happy birthday Tina!

Picking a favorite color is as hard as picking a favorite song!! Some days it’s purple, some days it’s blue or green (or that beautiful turquoise of tropical water!).

Today I pick green, because I’m thankful to live Oregon with so many shades of green all around us. 🙂
