All the single skeins….

All the single skeins…

Well not all of them,  just all the Single Silk Targhee single skeins!!

I so love our Single Silk Targhee  so I am pretty thrilled that the weather has changed to cooler so I can knit all the things in heavier weight and warmer yarns. If you have not knit with this yarn yet believe me you are missing a wonderful knit experience. As most of you know I have a bit of a love affair with the bouncy and elastic wool that is Targhee. Add in a little bit of Tussah Silk and BAM!!  Super singles!

One of the magical things that happens when we dye our SST ( Single Silk Targhee) is that the heat and water from our process brings back some of that lovely crimp that Targhee is know for. Wool magic!!!  Also the dye process felts those single a bit which makes it so our lovely singles will not pill which is something we all worry about with singles that are not superwash treated!

Our Single Silk Targhee skeins are pretty large so you can get a fair amount of knitting out of one! Cowls and scarves and hat and mitts and sweaters even!!

So…because of my love and the turn of season weather and holiday knitting!

Now for a few updates:

Sock club has finally shipped!! Thank you so very much for your patience!

We are just about caught up with web orders!! Which I will tell you is not small thing. In all of the years that I have run this business never have we been hit so hard by an illness. There were days when there 2 of us. Crazypants!!  I told team Blue Moon this week that we should record the barn cause all you hear is coughing and nose blowing and sneezing.
Thank you all for your well wished and understanding. You’re the best!!

My goals for next week is to get sock club 2018 announced!

We are also going to do a pre-sale for a reprint of our Fair Isling on Blue moon patter book so look for that!!

And hopefully some new colorways!

Oh and we will be shipping out School of Yarn this week.

The sun is out this weekend so I am going to take a nice long walk in the great fall color that the Pacific Northwest is giving us this year. So stunning.

inspiration monday: color consolation

The third weekend of October is come and gone — which means that some of us (snif snif) didn’t get a chance to walk the avenues at Rhinebeck, aka the Dutchess County Sheep and Wool Festival. (Which I recently had to describe to some non-knitters as: “Woodstock, for knitters. … but with more clothes.”)

Instead of wallowing in self-pity and consuming my body weight in Halloween candy, however, I’ve decided to console myself… with COLOR. Multi-color wraps, to be precise! Two delicious, calorie-free-yet-color-rich designs crossed my consciousness this last week, and I just want to soak up all the fantastic possible combinations!

Electra

photo @ Libby Jonson

First up is Electra by the ever-talented Libby Jonson of Truly Myrtle. Let’s face it — it was already going to be great with that grey-on-green combination, amiright? But lace + slip stitches + big rectangle of cooshy goodness has gotta win the project trifecta.

Three skeins, one color each of Featherlight will have you sighing with joy, even if you were knitting with your eyes closed! (Which you won’t be, because seriously – have you seen how Featherlight takes colors?) And after all the pleasure of knitting it, you’ll love draping its light, flowing fabric around you on a crisp, pale winter’s day.

Since I can’t get the original colorway out of my mind, I’d go for Winter Solstice + Deep Unrelenting Grey + Mossay for mine.

And as if that weren’t distracting enough, we’ve got another great textured wrap to tantalize you with — and this one lets you add in a FOURTH color! Meet Marya.

photo @ Ambah O’Brien

Oh, the possibilities! I’m seeing speckles … are you?

Best of all, the lovely Ambah has left us a little note on the pattern page: “You may like to use partial or mini skeins for colours 2, 3, and 4. You’ll need 3 mini skeins each containing 134 yd/123 m for each colour you replace in this way.” And lookie here: Tina and the crew are now dyeing Featherlight MINIs with a generous 150 yards each – so you can play, play, play!

Pick your favorite solid in a full skein of Featherlight for the MC (I’m digging her dark groove here, so I might dive in with Obsidian or Black Onyx)…

… and then go a little crazy with some speckles from the new batch of Fall colors Tina put up last week.

Anyanka, Tree Toots and On a Lark

The trees are telling us loud and clear this time of year: color can console!

Change!

Seems like there’s all  kinds of change in the wind these days. A natural progression with the shifting of the seasons.

I love the one we are in right now from the hot and bright run in ocean at the beach summer kind of energy to the more let’s sit by the fire, knit and listen to the rain with the hot beverage of you choice.  My friend Gail and celebrate this time of the year since it is her absolute favorite .

Here in Blue Moon land we celebrate this time of year with a color change since is kind of what we do. So we have put up some of my favorite colorways in line with the season and quicker that we’d like approaching holidays.

I love going meandering the colorway database (yup there is a colorway database) when it’s time to pick new colorways. It’s a super colorful trip down memory lane. I am reminding of the why and when and how I made each colorway and who for or with. I pour myself a glass of wine, sit down with my trusty laptop and visit with my color friends.

Here they are:

Of course we will be adding brand new colors to this in the next few weeks!

Knitters all over the planet are headed to New York right now because ….New York Sheep and Wool, lovingly  referred to as, Rhinebeck.  I have never been to Rhinebeck. I know…it’s  a bit ridiculous. My yarn is always there thanks to my dear friend and yarnie extraordinaire Toni Neil of the Fold.

IMG_3655

Toni has been traveling the country pulling her yarn-V doing  shows and events for what seems like forever.  I have been lucky enough that she has taken my yarn and fibers down all these exciting fiber trails with her.

I thank my lucky stars the day I called The Fold looking for these super special spindles made by Gabe that only Toni carried at the time. I bought two I think and still have them both! We became fast friends and have been so ever since.  I think we talked for like 30 minutes that first phone call.
Toni was one of the very first people to buy my roving and handspun which is what I did way…way…back then. That she believed in me and continues to do so has meant more to me than I have words to express.

This weekend will be Toni’s last Rhinebeck! I know… . As she has said it is time to hang out and knit and spin. we are both getting rockers for the front porch. we might have to get and extra for Gail and Kaci too or they will be super jealous.

So please if you are at Rhinebeck stop by and say hi and give her a big ol hug. Give her one for me too.

Thank you Toni for all you have done for me and Blue Moon on this journey of ours! Can’t wait for the next chapter.

Thank you to Bill and Nan for loving Toni as much as I do!!!

We are still recovering or at least trying to from whatever this bug  is that has laid us all out. I thought I would have a full team today and had three of them out so send healthy thoughts this way please!!

Also…get you flu shot!! We all wish we did.

Thank you so very much for all of your understanding and patience.

xoxoxo

Have a great weekend!

Here is our new colorway for Rhinebeck ( New York Sheep and Wool). I create a new colorway every year and have for almost as long as my dear, dear friend Toni ( The Fold) has been packing up her trailer with our yarns and making the trek from her lovely shop in Marengo, Illinois to upstate New York.

Along with our Rhinebeck 2017 colorway Toni has all kinds of goodies with her this year including my newest yarn obsession our ever plump and luscious Plushy!!

My hot pink color love song to all of the breast cancer warriors and the people who love them. We are donating 10% of sales to breast cancer research. Maggie and I are thinking of combining our Fade to Black kit with Stitch PINK for a magical kind of punkish grade!

You will also might find our “Don’t Rain on my Craft Parade” colorway if you get there early enough!

If you heard the last Grocery Girls podcast you might remember Tracie defending one of our own whom had been treated unkindly.  We have all been there. I know I have. Anyway she ended with the statement, “Don’t rain on my craft parade!”  I love it!! Immediately messaged her to commiserate and tell her that I was so making her this colorway (she was thrilled) and here it is! And hey, … don’t flipping rain on our craft parade!

Another show that is happening this weekend is The Woodstock Fleece Festival

The lovely Terri O’Brien of Feather Your Nest will be there with a bunch of our yarn and some really lovely samples all knit up!

Like this stunning Veronika by Shannon Cook in our Targhee Worsted!

Terri also has Socks that Rock, Yaksi  and Crackpaca with so many wonderful project ideas and kits! Do stop by and say hi!

So it has been quite the few weeks here with super late yarn deliveries and then when the yarn got here team blue moon started dropping like flies with some awful plague. There were times when we were down to one dyer. It’s been crazy. We’re almost caught up too!

So frustrating!

Sock club will most definitely ship out next week. I think this might just be the latest we have ever been. I am so sorry and I really appreciate your understanding.

Oh… I almost forgot.

We added our second semester of School of Yarn!!!   Check it out!  Semester #2 is Merino Madness! We are so enjoying our little yarn school. I hope you are too!
