A few new things that are exciting!

Happy Friday!!!

We have a few new and exciting yarns and color type goodness that I hope make your Friday even happier!

New Yarns!! Wouldn’t be great if every time we had a new yarn we had a yarn party?!

Let me introduce you to our two new fingering-weight yarns, Featherlight and Super Sparkle!

FeatherlightSuperSparkle2

Aren’t they pretty!

I have to say I am not usually one for sparkley bits in my knitting but I find the silver lurex in our Super Sparkle intriguing on a few levels. I am easily amused and maybe slightly color obsessed so it is just all kinds of fun to see my colorways with the added silver sparkle. It will never get old!

I love that the lurex is plied into the yarn so it does not really affect the over all feel of the yarn, it just gives it that little extra added something. My grandmother would’ve called it pizzazz. I think pizzazz describes it perfectly! Hmm…maybe should’ve names it pizzazz. Well dang!

Super Sparkle’s woolly bits are superwash merino spun with a fair amount of elasticity! Which makes it good for just about any knitting you so desire. We have knit it both tight enough for socks and loose enough for lace and it handles both like a yarn super star. Just enough elasticity for the tighter gauge we want for socks, hats or mittens while also having some draping qualities that we wants for open work.

And if that weren’t enough yarn goodness for one day in waltzes, oh wait… floats Featherlight, our new fingering-weight single.  I have been looking for a really nice fingering-weight single for awhile now and am pretty picky about the qualities I feel like it should possess.  One of those was that I really, really, really wanted it to be Targhee wool  (yes I do have a Targhee problem) and not merino. I was going to hold out for the Targhee but this yarn ~ this yarn, is seriously wonderful. I have fallen for it pretty hard, so here we are.  Please do not tell Targhee on me.

FeatherlightSK

I feel like a really good single has to have just the right amount of spin on it to keep it’s integrity during, processing, dyeing, knitting and then wearing while also having loftiness. As it’s name suggests, Featherlight is so very light. So lofty! So far it has passed all of our integrity tests while retaining it’s uplifting qualities. We are pretty thrilled. I got to be the test knitter and I have to say knitting with Featherlight is a super dreamy experience

We are so very excited about these two beauties that we decided to offer them for a very short window of time at a ~ Share the woolly goodness love introductory price!!!! Yay!

Both of these yarn will retail around 24.00. So it’s quite the deal and will only last a week or so don’t miss out!

I guess this is kind of a yarn party!!

************************

I have finally put together some more Color Stories Color-work bags to add to all of this knit happiness.  I love putting these together and will be adding more in as I am inspired to do so. Next there will be some gradients. If there is ever anything you want to see in these color combo kits, color-wise or theme related then please do let me know.

It’s been a busy week!

We just shipped the March Rockin” Sock Club shipment. So next week we will shutting down sign-ups. If you still want in now is your last chance for all of the sock knitting goodness we have planned for 2016.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Happy Knitting!

In like a lion with a lamb goodness!!

It’s finally yarn crawl weekend!!!!

There’s so much going on in the next few weeks, it makes this dyer’s head spin.

Okay first let’s talk about our little BFL Fingering Sale. So we sold 800 skeins of it last weekend when we marked it down. In case you didn’t know…that’s a mega -****- ton of yarn to dye. So it might take us a little longer than usual to dye it all up.

It is super pretty hanging from the rafters, in all of it’s light and airy goodness. I truly am going to be sad to say goodbye to this yarn.

Oh well… when a door closes another one opens right? And that is so true here. Remember the small lot of Single Silk Targhee we had before Christmas that I was trying to convince the mill to make for us? Guess what? THEY ARE!!!  Hopefully it will be here in April. I am so very excited. We are going to create such wonderful knit goodness with this yarn.

Coastal Yarns in Cannon Beach is celebrating it’s 10th Anniversary this month. Since they have been one of our flagship yarns stores and we love them tons we have created a super special colorway to commemorate this occasion.

Coastal Sunset Celebration

I’m pretty tickled with how this colorway came out. when you open the skein you have the end of the sunset when it is all dusky and mysterious. The blue-green oceany depths with the setting sun hues as they play out over the sand on one end of the skein and the sky on the other end of the skein. Yeah…pretty charmed.

we have teamed up with our buddy Shannon who designed a lovely shawlette and cowl combo that takes our Coastal Sunset to the next level!

Shannon and Sherry have a KAL planned so be sure to check that out and all the other fun the wonderful team at Coastal has planned for the month!

See all of this peachy goodness!

Well we have these and a few more so you know what that means? We need to send some of the colorways up on the website off to the spa. Here is list of the ones that we are sending off next week. So, if you need to add some to your stash now is the time!

We shipped out the Rockin’ Whorl Club yesterday and we sent out the email with the Dyer’s Notes too.

I told you there was a lot going on.

Happy knitting!!!

Rose City Yarn Crawl!!!

When the sun rises here in Blue Moon-land it slowly climbs over the hills, breaking down and over into the fields and finally peaking through the tress, down the drive and right smack dab into the barn the two sets of double glass doors that are the front of the dye barn.

As you an see it affords us with many lovely sunlit woolly moments that just warms the heart and inspires the soul!

Since we are speaking of inspiration and delight I spotted this on my walk yesterday. We are rich with pussy willows especially down my the river where I like to walk. It is that time of year wear for their fuzzy selves to shed their covers.  Luckily I happened upon these as they were still shedding their shells. Look at their little caps!!! So cute!

Delightful!

Is everyone getting excited for next weekend?? The Rose City Yarn Crawl Portland’s knit extravaganza is finally upon us! We have been dyeing so much yarn for Twisted  that we all have been wondering where the heck they are going to put it.  So when I showed up early this week with yet more yarn (and yet more today) and was met with boxes and boxes of Blue Moon yarn and lots of Twistedista’s unpacking and inventory it all I got a small glimpse of to the, hows and where. It was quite the sight I will tell you. It looked a lot like the dye barn had exploded on Twisted and in a way I guess it has. As you can see everyone was enlisted to help!

I designed two colorways for Twisted inspired by this years theme ~ ” Oregon Grows Great Things”.

Leapin’ Lupines for all of the beautiful wild lupines that grow pretty much everywhere here. I know along Hwy 30 they are all along the roadside on the the sides of the hills. So pretty! One of my favorite flowers.

I do not think you can have a conversation about what Oregon grows without considering mosses and lichens, since they basically grow everywhere on just about everything here in this part of Oregon.  I secretly (and firmly) believe if one were to stand still long enough you would find yourself with a lovely green mossy coat. One of Portland’s other growing super powers is most definitely our hipster vibe which I translated into the plaid aspect of our colorway by how the colors play out when it crochets/knits up. All  of which gives us a Mossy Plaid Portland which makes this Oregonian’s heart sing green!

I hope you like them as much as I enjoyed creating them. I love how well they worked in the two stunning that  Kat and Megan created.  I love both of these designs. Kat’s is quite elegant and if I were a lupine I would be feeling the love right now. Such a pretty lace panel.
I do not often say this but Megan’s shawl makes we wish I was a more talented crocheter because I would be starting to crochet one right now. So much fun.

So after lots and lots of talking and some number crunching with have made the hard decision of saying goodbye to our light and lovely BFL Fingering. We love this yarn but it is not the easiest thing for the mill to do and well… sometimes you just have to let things go. Which we are choosing to do at this point time.

We have about 150 pounds left in stock which is a fair amount when you are a light and lofty fingering weight yarn. We have marked it down to form 23.50 to 13.50.  A pretty sweet deal. I know I am going to add a fair amount to my stash since it makes such a light and lovely shawl.

Do you remember the super fun KAL we did a few years ago with Star Athena’s Interval?

Our BFL  sale will last as long as the yarn does.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend.

Yarn and color = knit fun!

Wow!  This sure has been a week. I don’t know about you but I,for one, am pretty thrilled that it is Friday! We had a big storm and lost our internets for a whole day which really slows things down. It did mean I got to go to pdx and work at my favorite pub so that was fun.  So much wind and rain!

Okay so I have lot to tell you so I will just jump right in.

The new Winter Twist Collective is live. Have you seen it? There’s some pretty wonderful knits there so if you have not taken a gander the weekend is a good time to do so with a nice cup of the beverage of your coice and a quiet corner.  There are two designs using our yarns. One is a wickedly creative out of the box shawl by Lana Jois called KizzleKazzle,  I am so intrigued by. I find myself wanting to knit it just to see how it works. When Kate talked to me about supplying the yarn for this design she told me she thought that this was one of those knits that would bend our minds and inspire our creativity. Also they are stunning! I would like to feel that scarf wrapped around my neck in this cold weather. I bet it is super cozy since it is our Gaea Fingering. Which brings us to another cool aspect of this design. The shawl is knit in Gaea Sport and the scarf in Gaea Fingering. Yeah!! So the applications are endless for that stitch pattern.

I love a design that is not only beautiful and functional but also inspires! Thank you Lana and Kate for including us in this super fun project!

The second design is a striking raglan turtleneck called Spalle by Angela Hahn. Do you see the lines in this sweater. Stunning! In my opinion Spalle is a classic sweater and a good addition to our winter wardrobe and knit basket. I especially like that is is knit from the bottom up in the round in one piece. If I was a skier I would so be knitting this to wear on the slopes. Thank you Angela!

A reminder: If you are planning to join the December 7th IN Triplicate KAL we need your yarn order  so we can get it to you in time! When you purchase the e-book from Lee, Shannon and Star there is a discount code good for 10% of you yarn purchase with us. Also the Loopy Ewe has a whole bunch of our Gaea Sport in stock so no waiting. Please note that the discount code is only good at Blue Moon! I think I am going to use green, yellow and white and knit gifts for my son and his wife. Those are the Timbers (soccer) colors and they are HUGE fans and…we are winning!! I think Timbers super hero mitts would be just thing thing!

Our SilkMO Special is going strong. I often wish our knitters could stand in the barn under all the yarn hanging to dry. It’s so pretty and just plain wonderful to be surrounding by color and texture in that way. This is especially true right now with all of the SilkMO hanging form the rafters. It’s like colorful fluffy clouds. We are having so much fun with this I think we will keep it going until after Thanksgiving.

I admit I am curious as to the plans for all of this mohair so please do share pictures with us when you are done with your projects!

Oh which reminds me I wanted to mention how wonderful your color choices for the Targhee Bulky for our BASS offerings, She Said, He Said are. Just yummy! I can’t wait to see them knit up.

See this?

This is Tofino by my buddy Kat Buckspan

I was in Twisted yesterday dropping off their yarn ( side note: Twisted is full of Blue Moon right now!) and Kat was there. We got to chatting, as we do, about this and that. I mentioned her cowl and how great it would look in our Sookie. She agreed! She also told me that it was an hour knit. Now…maybe that is true for her but I do not knit anything in an hour. I dyed some Sookie in Antiquated System yesterday and am going to knit Tofino this weekend. If in fact this is an hour or so knit, then I am golden for the holidays!

Look at it! It’s so pretty and fun!

Okay so this is turning into a super long blog post so I am going to sign off. First the RSC 2016 will be live next week for gift certificate purchases.

Also, I promised you new and exciting this week and it is there on the website but I am going to let you find it. I want to talk in great detail about these two new wonders and will do so on Monday. In the mean time you can see what you find!  A bit of a treasure hunt if you will.

Oh and I almost forgot.

Check out Churchmouse’s big reveal this weekend.  It’s pretty exciting!! Remember when I said I felt a bit like a dye spy recently with all of the secret colorway making. Well… this was one of my secret dye missions!

okay so before signing off please join me in welcoming to the Blue Moon family of Local Yarn Stores. We are thrilled to be working with these wonderful LYS’s!

Let’s talk color.

Just about all the holiday colorways are all up as are the 5 new ones!

My favorite of the new ones has to be 10 Lords a Leaping. Although, I am also pretty fond of Let it go… .

We are adding a bunch of our multi-colrways to our SilkMo offerings during this SilkMo Special (which is still going on). I think we will keep it going for another week or so. Our techie will have those up tonight along with additional color choices for the Targhee Bulky for those of you wanting to order for this months BASS offering, He Said, She Said by the lovely, Shannon Squire. So look for those to be on the website after this evening.

Since we are making our holiday knitting lists and schedules and shopping around for what we need I wanted to mention that if you are looking for a nice neutral or more subdued hues for those people in your life that are not about the bright or the high contrast then do check out what we have sent Simply Socks in the past few months.

In response to requests for more sedate colors from her knitters, Allison of Simply Socks Yarn Company, asked me to come up with a few colorways for her. I’ve created six for her so far and just shipped out the last two on Wednesday so she should have them now. Yup I just looked and they are already up on the website! I think of the six I like these last two the very best.

Sub-Dude and Stone Smoked Porter

The four other hues are below. We had fun, as we do, with the naming. Even though these are not by any means “manly” colors since we do not define color that way at Blue Moon. I did push the envelope a bit with the naming, just because it was too tempting not too. A bit of tongue in cheek if you will.

Since I wear mostly brown, black and greys, these are, in fact, my kind of hues! I know I would love socks  or a scarf or hat or gloves… in any of these colorways.  In fact…do you think she would think it weird if I ordered a skein?

Tobacco Road, Lumber Jack, Super Manly and Something Manly.

We have some pretty exciting knit happenings coming your way in the next few weeks so do stay tuned!

For those that are asking, the 2016 Sock Club will be up for gift certificate buying within the next few weeks.

If you are a member now check out the RSC blog and tell me some of your favorite things!

Have a lovely weekend!

Another week flies by or time flies when you’re dyeing yarn!

It’s Friday already. How does that happen? It seems like just yesterday it was Monday and then boom, here we are at Friday.

Since it means I have another week of radiation under my belt with only 8 more treatments to go I will say, Hi-dee-ho Friday so very good to see you and move on.

We have been very busy little dyers prepping Twisted for the Rose City Yarn Crawl and also dyeing all the BFL Sport ordered for the Big Ass Skein Club, plus a few LYS orders thrown in for good measure.  So much BFL and LSS!!  The Lan Su colorway I created for Twisted for our beloved RCYC is so pretty in the LSS, especially when there’s almost 100 skeins of it hanging gracing the rafters in the dye barn.  I want to put it all in a big pile and crawl into and take a dreamy nap.

LanSU&SatMarket

Twisted is seriously stocked with Blue Moon yarns and color for the crawl. The two colorways I created are Lan Su in honor of our magical Chinese Garden and Saturday Market.  I had so much fun coming up with these two colorways. Saturday Market was easy peasy I just went with bright, happy with a smidge of hippie and a dash of rainbow. A little tie dye inspiration. I love Yasgur’s Farm Market Bag that Megan Parrish designed. It’s the perfect compliment to my Saturday Market colorway and to our local craft and farmer’s markets, especially our Saturday Market.

And then there’s Lan Su Garden Cowl by Katherine Leek which is so very pretty. I think everyone is going to want to knit themselves at least one of these. I definitely want one in the Lan Su colorway.  Then again I also might want a blanket with LSS or Sookie in the Lan Su colorway with it’s depth of watery hues.

LanSuLSS

On Sunday March 8th, the last day of the crawl, Blue Moon will have a trunk show at Twisted with all of our most recent designs and, also, some of our long standing most popular. We are lucky enough to have our 2 designs by Carol Feller from this past Fall, Capall Dubh and Landscape Waves. So if you want a gander at those they will be there in all of their knit glory.

I hope everyone has an absolute blast!! We are so lucky to have such a fun and well organized yarn crawl. I think we all should take a moment to appreciate and even thank those who work so hard to make this happen fr us. As someone who has organized big things I know a whole lot of work is involved.

BMFA_BigAssSkeinClub_Logo_sm

As I said earlier we dyed the first round of BFL orders for The Big Ass Skein Society! Those will be shipping out on Monday and Tuesday. I can’t wait to see all of these colorways knit up into that beautiful shawl, Vesna that Shannon designed.

One of the best parts of these knit-a-longs is seeing how all the colors knit in one pattern. I walk in the barn and look at them all hanging there and think to myself ( but often out loud) “Wow I never thought of that colorway for this.”  over and over and over. I am sure everyone else in the barn gets sick of this but for me it is constant wonder and magic.

One other thing before I head off to check on the baby chicks the Rockin’ Whorl Club will ship out on Monday. Sorry for the 2 day delay. I forgot there were not 31 days in this month and evidently right now I really need my months to have 31 days in them. I promise it is worth the wait. I love this color and fiber combo so much that it kind of makes me weak in the knees.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. I plan on not getting up at 5:00 am and maybe catching up on Grimm!

Shifting colorways…

Like shifting sands through the hourglass and, of course, the Days of our Lives – so… it’s time for our official fall and holiday colorway change.  As many of you have gently reminded us.  Thanks for that by the way. It’s good to know you are loved!

Our humble tonal apologies for our tardiness, we’ve been swamped with getting everyone their yarn for the two wonderful KAL’s we are lucky enough to be  part of with  Shannon Squire and Carol Feller!  Also… a myriad of LYS orders, so you can waltz into your fav local yarn store and fondle Blue Moon yarns in person! You can check our list of LYS’s here.  It’s a constantly evolving list so check it often.  If  you do not see your fav yarn store on our list please do drop us a line and let us know. Remember your local yarn store’s best asset is you! info@bluemoonfiberarts.com

Okay without further ado our list of colorways that are headed off to the spa for a bit of a rehuevenation! These color ways will come down on Monday the 6th of October and the new ones will go up Friday the 10th.

It’s pretty color happy place in the barn these days! Aren’t skeins sexy!

One last piece if you have yet to order your yarn for Carol’s KAL we request that you do so soon we have plenty of time to get it to you!   Thank you!

Happy Thursday!

Because I can’t seem to stop and I see no reason to…

Just a few more color duos for our current Mystery Kal! If you want to get in on the fun we will promise shipping arrival if you order by end of business on the 17th. Yes, that is tomorrow!

Eat.Sleep.Knit is the brainchild of Erin Walker and her lovely husband Dan. It was born in Erin’s closet in 2007 and has grown to be a place of sanity and community for yarn fiends looking for luxury, hand dyed and painted yarn. The Yarnathon, Knit-A-Long, trivia, lotto tickets, and fun challenges like a T-shirt scavenger hunt are what make Eat.Sleep.Knit the yarn shop of your dreams!

Erin
Erin, owner and founder of ESK, is the proud Mom of an 11 month old baby boy named Levi. When she’s not singing along to bad country music in the car with Levi, you’ll find her knitting while re-watching Dawson’s Creek or forcing her hubby to watch Down to You…again! If you can manage to not crack a smile while Erin is around, you are ridiculous (her favorite word)!

Emily L
Emily L, Photographer and Editor extraordinaire, is a member of the Atlanta Women’s Chorus and loves to belt out Don’t Stop Believin’! What does she believe in? Living by the motto “It is what it is.” She is an avid reader, loves The Muppets, and would die if she could find a quart of the seemingly extinct Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby!

Jess
Jess has a growing little family comprised of: 2 darling kitties (Skatha and Poe), tree frogs, fire bellied toads, and a few fish! When not searching for a new Hello Kitty plush or buying Halloween decor, you’ll find Jess savoring a pint of Jeni’s Savannah Buttermint ice cream. She could spend hours smelling all the new lotions in the store Lush and loves Pearl Jam.

Emily K
Emily K, Social Media & Marketing Manager, loves to shop for antiques and collects a plethora of them! From vintage cameras and radios to 50s spools of thread and buttons, she adores it all! She has 2 kitties (Ollie and Bianca), thinks “everything happens for a reason”, and absolutely cannot live without peanut butter cake!

Janine
When Janine isn’t sitting in the drive thru at Starbuck to get her iced coffee, you’ll probably find her watching home improvement shows with her girl kitty, Gary. She loves going on long hikes, listening to the band Fleet Foxes, learning about Neuroscience, and looking for a new glazed ceramic coffee mug.

Jenny
Aside from her talents as our Graphic Designer, Jenny is double jointed and can do a lip wave! She cannot resist a sale at Dick Blick to pick up her prized art supplies. If she’s not drawing or painting, you’ll find Jenny watching the movie Teen Witch with her kitty Puddy. While knitting, she loves listening to Queen and Leslie and The Lies.

Lindsay
Office Manager Lindsay loves her 3 adopted dogs (Buster, Bailey, and Gizmo) and spoils them rotten! As a Memphis, TN native, Lindsay loves her peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream. She never misses an episode of any MTV reality show and regularly tunes in to NPR.

Wendy
Wendy the Wool Winder is our resident baker who uses her hand-made wool potholders to pull delicious confections from the oven. When it’s too hot to bake, Wendy loves Tastykake’s Butterscotch Krimpets. She loves going to the library and reading with her 5 girl kitties (Sparky, Skylar, Inky, Coffe, and Toffee). If she can’t find the answer in a book, Wendy loves using Google; especially to find new inspiration for her next knit.

Jackie
Jackie loves all things girly! She is addicted to buying new handbags, shoes, make up, and yarn. When she isn’t searching for the next Turkish drop spindle to add to her collection, you’ll find her walking her 3 dogs (Gus, Argo, and Oona). Jackie has a secret affinity for trashy romance novels (don’t we all?), Sci Fi TV shows, Amazon.com shopping, and lemon bars/pie.

Hazelwood by Shannon Squire

Hazelwood, as seen in our Twist Collective ad this Spring! Designed by the delightful, cute, spunky and ever so talented Shannon Squire!  Hazelwood is knit in our BFL Sport one of my favorite garment yarns here at Blue Moon. I love the soft airiness of this yarn.

Don’t even get me started on the way it loves to be dyed. So pretty!

Hazelwood is the prefect romp around town sweater. It looks and feels good in all of it’s stripey coordinating goodness! I’m super excited to see all of the color combinations everyone comes up with for this sweater.

If you are anywhere near~Twisted PDX, The Fold, Natural Stitches ,The Fiber Gallery ~ you can see our BFL SPORT close up and in person.
