More Sock News: Sock Camp, a contest and Sock Summit 2014

Sock Camp ~ Sock Summit

Unlike the age old adage, which came first the chicken or the egg, we know which came first here, and that is Sock Camp.

We’ve been getting a whole lot of requests lately wanting to know when the 2012 Sock Summit is.  So far both Sock Summits we’ve held have been spaced with a recovery and planning year between them. After hearing from the OCC about dates for 2013 Steph and I decided to have a bit of a think about just when the next summit should be. We’re still in the process of deciding specifics but our slightly superstitious hearts think Sock Summit 2014 has a really nice ring to it.  I’ll also cop to having a thing for even numbers, they just seem so much more tidy.  We’ll keep you posted on specifics as they happen we know them.

In the mean time, we are doing what we do every year and what Sock Summit was born out of, our beloved Sock Camp, the place where sock knitters dreams are made. As I said in the previous post (right below this one) we’re knitting pirates this year, joining Steph and I as we pillage our way around the sock is; Carson Demers, Lucy Neatby and of course first mate Debbi Stone aka cockeyed the pirateer. We’re still waiting on Carson and Lucy’s pirate names. If you need a sock summit quick fix then sock camp is for you.

You can read more about what we have planned right here: Camp Cast Away Registration information is also there.

Alright then… off to swab a deck or two.

ps. I swear the new colourways are coming soon! Also some wickedly wonderful camel/merino/silk blend spinning fiber.

I’m think I’m glad that Sock Summit may be in 2014. It will give me an extra year to save. I’ve never been, and now that I’m retired I can’t wait to go, so much fun and so much socky goodness.

Even numbers are tidy? Tina, the other 2 summits were 2009 and 2011. The only thing even was the fact that they were 2 years apart. Now I’ll have a whole extra year in which to whine, moan, groan, grumble, gripe, snivel and complain. I’d book for Sock Camp to take the edge off, but I have a Renee Fleming concert at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto right in the middle of Sock Camp. This is not my year to be a pirate(sigh).

    Cheers and red wine, Hazel.

What interesting comments you’ve been getting lately.

I’m glad for the extra year to save and plot and plan and hopefully get a few more knitters from my knitting group to come along.

Always have great times at Knothysteria Productions whenever and where ever they happen.

Hugs to all the ladies at the barn!

I think 2014 sounds great!  I did wonder about that whole “13” thing…not that I am bothered by that…..well maybe a wee bit!  I am looking forward to the new colors since there is purple involved!  Am so excited for camp and to see everyone, you all have a way of making an incredible impact on our lives and we love you for it!  Hugs and Blessings, Love Josie

I’m the same way about odd numbers.  My sound volume always starts on an odd number, my thermostat is set at an odd number, my cruise control gets set to an odd number (it’s digital), & so on.  People have always said I’m a little odd. Oh, and 13 is one of my favorite numbers.

Sock Summit 2013, 2014 … doesn’t matter (well, a teensy bit it does).  I’ll be there.  Methinks that Sock Camp 2013 will just have to happen for me!

I agree with you Carol, I’ve been impatiently waiting since the 24th. If I don’t get to see some new yarn soon, I’m afraid I’m going to brake out in hives soon.

I agree that 2014 sounds perfect.  One more year to reduce stash and attempt to catch up on patterns & techniques.  And I can always use some more practice on being patient.

  20. Oh, Tina, I have to officially mournfully tell you that you won’t see my smiling face at Sock Camp this year.  Non-negotiable work issues prevent my coming, and I am very very sad.  It just doesn’t seem right for me not to be heading to the Pacific Northwest in the early spring, to see my Sock Camp peeps and have a glorious time.

I know it will be wonderful—even without me and my dubious talent show performances—and I will be thinking of you all next month.  Please know that if there were any way to come, I would, as your plans sound amazing.  Now YOU have a good time, hear? It’s your fun time too! I’m setting my sights on next year and crossing my fingers.
