Here are all the incarnations of cosy, fierce and dirty in the orange realm that Steph and I played with on our “my perfect orange” dye play day. These are the ones that I know I want to keep. Also the ones I know that I can repeat. Because finally after years and years of doing this I’ve finally learned my lesson and religiously take notes whenever I walk into that barn and pick up dye.
You’ll notice that there are a few yellows here also. What? I ask you what is yellow if not a very pale orange? Mostly they’re here because I am colour curious and wanted to see what would happen if we added a pinch more of this yellow and maybe a dab of the other one. I could envision this cosy little orange of ours was going to also yield us some pretty fierce yellows. Personally I think these two yellows are pretty hot stuff.
Anyway, here are our final six. Truly it is six, as you can see if you really look. I had a bit of a post-it debaucle and didn’t notice until my photo session was complete and the rain had started. The #5 post-it was really clingy to it’s friend #4 and well you see what happened. This is an error we are going to choose to embrace.
These lovelies need names. Please put your names ideas in the comments. I’ll choose what tickles my fancy and if your colourway name is one of the lucky winners we’ll send you the original skein that Steph and I dyed. For clarity let’s call that last post it with no number, Mr. Blank. So we have colourway 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and Mr.Blank who need their tonal essence captured in a word or very short phrase. You know how this rolls.
You have until Tuesday the 14th. ps. Please put the number of the skein you’re choosing the name for next to your suggestion.

Overall Theme Name: Andalucia I was there on a college tour when the Expo was on in 1992 and those colours just bring me straight back to the sights, sounds, smells and flavours of that trip
Individual Colour Names: 1. Fino (the dry sherry, nothing more refreshing under a hot Spanish Sun!) 2. Torre del Oro (Tower of Gold, a land mark in Seville) 3. Seville (that’s the exact colour of the oranges on the orange tree-lined streets) 4. La Mezquita (in Cordoba: two-tone moorish arches) 6. Alhambra (in Granada: a place of refuge to replenish the soul - as this colour does) Mr Blank. Jerez or Oloroso Sherry (hmm, yes, it was college… there was a lot of sherry!)
Thanks for the trip down memory lane for me at least! Best of luck naming your yarns.

I feel the need to explain Mr. Blank - it’s a Harry Potter reference. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry is made to write lines (specifically, the phrase ‘I must not tell lies’) with a blood quill that carves the words into the back of his hand and magically uses his blood as ink. The colorway reminds me of a letter written in blood. Hence, Harry’s lines.

I am also reminded of a scene in the classic movie “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House” in which Myrna Loy chooses paint colors for her new home:
.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.
Muriel Blandings: I want it to be a soft green, not as blue-green as a robin’s egg, but not as yellow-green as daffodil buds. Now, the only sample I could get is a little too yellow, but don’t let whoever does it go to the other extreme and get it too blue. It should just be a sort of grayish-yellow-green. Now, the dining room. I’d like yellow. Not just yellow; a very gay yellow. Something bright and sunshine-y. I tell you, Mr. PeDelford, if you’ll send one of your men to the grocer for a pound of their best butter, and match that exactly, you can’t go wrong! Now, this is the paper we’re going to use in the hall. It’s flowered, but I don’t want the ceiling to match any of the colors of the flowers. There’s some little dots in the background, and it’s these dots I want you to match. Not the little greenish dot near the hollyhock leaf, but the little bluish dot between the rosebud and the delphinium blossom. Is that clear? Now the kitchen is to be white. Not a cold, antiseptic hospital white. A little warmer, but still, not to suggest any other color but white. Now for the powder room - in here - I want you to match this thread, and don’t lose it. It’s the only spool I have and I had an awful time finding it! As you can see, it’s practically an apple red. Somewhere between a healthy winesap and an unripened Jonathan. Oh, excuse me…
Mr. PeDelford: You got that Charlie?
Charlie (Painter): Red, green, blue, yellow, white.
Mr. PeDelford: Check.
But obviously that’s too long for the yarn labels.
