Happy New Year and thank you to everyone that celebrated in some way with us yesterday. Reflecting on yesterday and last year I realized that we said goodbye to 2009 in pretty grand style with our blue moon celebration. I think this was pretty appropriate 2009 was a big year with really high peaks and some pretty low swampy places. In all honesty there were some times and places this year where I was not sure I was going to make it. I learned a whole lot and sitting here in this place am grateful for every single moment, every lesson, every joy and sorrow and every person. I would not trade one second of it all. Growth is often painful and that is certainly what this year has been about. Lots and lots of growing...all about the growth . Lots of movement, sometimes slow and gentle and at other so fast and furious it felt like being in the eye of the great storm of chaos. Looking back on all of it especially the Sock Summit I am a seriously stunned and supremely grateful. One of the more touching moments yesterday was when a lovely knitter ( I suck at the name memory thing ,so sorry I do remember your face and spirit) thanked me and shared how SS09 changed her life. I was really moved by her and her story. When she was done I took a deep breathe to steady my emotions and told her that it changed my life to. Changed my life in ways I am not even sure I know all about yet. A small blessing I will gladly take because I really would like a little more processing time if at all possible.
John Henry Newman wrote that, “Growth is the only evidence of life”. I keep this written on a little slip of paper in my wallet as a gentle reminder to look around at all that is growing, cycling and changing in the world. The reminder of this natural order I find comforting like knitting.
Yesterday was a beautiful day, one of those peaks and so much fun. I am sorry I was so engrossed that I have no pictures. I got to see and talk to knitters I love. We knit and spun, told stories and laughed ourselves silly, shared food and touched a whole lot of yarn. Our lovely blue moon peaked out of the clouds, fog and rain enough to bless us with light and gives us the chance to howl her glory.
Our rarefied blue moon sale was a huge success. The server did not crash ( wavered a bit), the system worked and a lot of knitters got rare gem mill ends. I promise we will do more often. We had it up for what about 2 hours and I think there were over 500 orders come through. Not bad eh? And even though irishgirlie and I could not get to Stonehenge for our big blue moon “knit the rocks socks” party the blue cast on around the planet was pretty awesome. What I saw here and on twitter and by emails and phone calls was pretty great. So 2009 I think we have honored and said good bye in grand style. Our knit caps off to you. My girls and I finished the day and year off by dancing in the New Year with Cyndi Lauper reminding us that girls just want to have fun and Mika just Love, love, loving today. I think a very good start for a new year.
Happy New Year Everyone!
How wonderful it has been through out this year of 2009..I have seen the Knitting world reignite into a fun, happy, growth time for all knitters...It has been such a reward to have been part of the Sock Summit..WOW! I have learned to knit a sock so many different ways..Yes, Tina, you were the one of many that opened the way to explore a new adventure in knitting..Love it..for the fun..laughter.. Now onward to another rewarding year in sock knitting… When off traveling, everyone seems to look at my feet..I wonder WHY?? It is Rockin’ So0cks on my feet!!

Happy New Year and a happy and healthy 2010. It sounds like the “group"(whomever that might have included) was anything but blue on the 31st. Those dancing dervishes looked like they were having the time of their lives. My friends and I had a more sedate evening-we ate(too much) and then watched and listened to Renee Fleming and Rolando Villazon sing La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera. I knit my sock while it was happening. Luckily, although none of the people there were knitters, they all fully realize that they are hardly likely to see me without needles in my hands and they make only the nicest of comments. One 26 year old presented me with a traced outline of his foot with the foot circumference printed neatly on it. Now I’m aware that I can knit Drew socks for next Christmas secure in the knowledge that he will appreciate them. What a great way to begin 2010(not to mention all the STR lightweight and medium weight I snagged). Cheers and red wine(we drank all the Veuve Cliquot at midnight), Hazel.

Happy & Healthy New Year to you and your family & staff.
And if I’ve not said it loudly before SS09 was the best knitting event I’ve ever attended. Thank you for all your hard work.
Happy Sock Knitting, ana

I am still trying to ponder the ties that bind me to BMFA. Beautiful yarn, certainly, that lends itself to spectacular socks. Rockin’ Socks, especially Rogue Roses, Fraggle Squiqqles and In Season. I laughed at/with, was disturbed by, felt gratitude for the beauty of friendship and industry associated with the company, the club and the Summit and represented in the blogs. I guess I got in touch with my passion for knitting this past year through my association with BMFA. There’s nothing better to make or give away than a beautiful, well-made pair of socks. Thanks for providing a lot of the deep breaths that I had to take in 2009.

Well I missed the Blue Moon Sale because we were travelling home from Florida in a blizzard. I did think of all of you tho, and cast on a pair of socks..that in hindsight are going to be ripped out because they are way too big.
But I do wish you all a Happy New Year, I am impatiently waiting for the 4th to sign up for the STR club...I can’t wait to start.
It was too snowy to see the moon but apparently there was also a partial eclipse..and according to the guys here at the Police Station, it was very busy. I was glad to be off..but am back at it here tonight.
Again a very Happy New Year to all.

Happy New Year to you, dear Tina. Growth? Yes, I’ve experienced some of that this year as well. Thanks for a great year, and best wishes for a joyful 2010!

Happy New Year, Tina! I hope 2010 is kind to you. Thank you for everything you did in 2009 to make it a great sock knitting year. And thank you for the Rare Gems sale. I intended to buy more, but didn’t want to be but so greedy. I did cast on a new sock yesterday out of a Rare Gem I bought at SS09. It’s a plain sock because I wanted the yarn to be the star of these socks and I admit that I need some muscle memory knitting right now. I lift my glass of champagne to you, wishing you a wonderful year.

Thank you, dear Tina, for the fun and laughs (I swear it was the yarn fumes); for Blue Moon and blue moon howling; for Sock Summit and learning and growing; for being you.
Here’s to 2010, and to a marvelous journey through the new year for you, your loved ones, and all at BMFA.
Big hugs!

Aside from a long drive in icy and snowy weather and not being able to see the Blue Moon, it was an awesome night! Our team won handily and I thoroughly enjoyed watching 3 teen girls laugh and love each others’ company. It’s fun to sit back, knit, and watch them. It has definitely been a tremendous year.
Tina, you are most eloquent with words and color! Here’s to continued growth and the wisdom that comes with it and drier ground to walk. I wish you all the best in 2010!!

HI Tina!
wow, I am so sorry I missed NYE with you and the gang! I loved SS09, and have heard from friends how fun it is to go to Scappoose. I came home from work last night at 8 pm, found out about the “gathering” and just could not get dressed and drive out there. Next time!!
I love how you open up on some of your blogs, and it makes me feel oddly compelled to share a little of my journey over the last year. Here goes......I have been a nurse for over 30 years, always with a very stable job and good benefits. At the age of 54 I took the plunge, and went into a completely different area of healthcare (something I had been training for, for a long time)
I went from someone with a great deal of experience and expertise to a newbie. This entailed giving up a stable job, and for the first time in a long time I had trouble finding a job. I am single, and the sole support of two kids, a dog and a cat (!) and did not have a steady income for almost a year, and no health insurance. I did a lot of on call work, and was terrified, but just kept putting one foot in front of the other.
I am proud of my spirit (and courage/stupidity) that I was able to do this. I am in a good job with a new career. I come home exhausted because my learning curve is a 90 degree vertical...but I am making everything I can out of the gifts I have been given. I am teaching my kids it is never too late to try something different....
Happy New Year everyone!!

Happy New Year to you all. I look forward to seeing all of you at Sock Camp. My thoughts were with you during the sale, but it was too far to come. I did make 3 pairs of socks for Christmas (one a size 14 EEEEE), so I cast on for a shawl instead.

I was there! My first attempt failed, I drove from Lake Oswego, when I made the last turn my little car started slipping and sliding and my DH said no. So I backed down and drove away, only to stop in Scappoose to see my father and his progress on the boat he is building, I swear it is Noah Arch. He promptly offered to drive me back up to your sale. He had so much fun talking with ladies knitting socks! I bought two skeins of Rare Gems Mill Ends and well other yarn too! It looks like dad will get his first pair of hand knit socks in 2010! Thank you ladies!

Happy New Year!
Thank you so much for the wonderful experiences I have had through the RSC. 2010 will be my 4th year in the club. Because of the fun I have had in the RSC I had branched out in 2009 and joined some other clubs. Well...to make a long story short, for 2010 RSC is the ONLY club I’m keeping. I love the yarn. I love the patterns. I love the support. I branched out this year and tried some other weights/types of yarn from BMFA and I’ve been thrilled by them all. (And I might have indulged a wee bit too much on the Rare Gems sale as well). I’m counting down till the 4th to sign up again. I only wise that some day I could make it to sock camp…

I guess it might have been a little cold to knit there....
We had a beautiful and blue-ish moon here too. A clear and cold night in the Midwest. And I did cast on my special Sock Camp dyed yarn on the night of the Blue Moon. It’s loverly. I have a feeling the site will spam me if I put in another link to ITS photo right now, but when it’s further along or blogged, I will share it at a future date.
