So many colors.
So little time…
I feel a little bit like the white rabbit in Alice. Franticly running about and chanting I am late, I am late for a very important date. In fact I am not late, just having a hard time making color decisions. So my chant is “ I can’t decide,I can’t decide” added into the frantic pacing.
There are colors that have to go back because it is that time of year. There are the lovely fall colors from the “color vault” that need to see the light of day again. There is the absolute MASSIVE amount that has been pouring out of me for the past two months. New colors that I am in love with and want to add to the wall of color here. and share with you all.
Oh and let’s not forget the “Spirits”,who are all on my kitchen table quietly whispering and reminding me of their presence every single time I walk by. Yikes, color haunting.
Because we have limited space and time, there are only so many that we can offer at one given time. This is one of the several reasons we rotate colors. Sometimes I find it extremely frustrating and a wee bit constricting. This is certainly one of those times. Which is why I feel slightly white rabbitish. Although this fellow that I ran into this weekend embodies some of the more edgy feelings I have been working with in relation to my color choosing angst.
Holding onto new colorways whether they are still in my head or on yarn is one of the hardest parts of what I do now. There is truth to the saying, “there is a time and season for everything” in relationship to color. However, I am enough of a child at heart that I want to share and say, “Ohh look! Isn’t this wonderful and wouldn’t it be great here and here and yes, even here in this yarn, with this stitch and … look what this color does when it meets and mingles with this one.” I do have my close yarny friends I share this with and it helps a lot.
Ultimately though, it is sharing it with you that is fulfilling. Seeing what everyone does with it. Who likes what and why. Who does not like what and why. Like, I still do not understand why there are not more who are head over heels for Highway 30. Don’t get it, I love this colorway. Maybe it is that season thing. Could be that this color mixture has just not hit its prime-time.
Anyway, I am finalizing this next rotation today so I get the photos done and ready for the techies to put on the site on the 18th.

I love Highway 30! I got my skein after I saw Cookie A’s Sock with No Name. They’re just ageing like fine wine ‘til the moment is right for me to cast on.
I don’t know how you do it, but whatever you do, I always love it.
got it! meet my new friend. I have been coming up with names feo him all morning. Rabid Rabbit and Bruiser Bunny are my current favorites.
I love hwy 30, too! I actually find it relaxing to drive into Portland.
Haunted by color. It sounds as if when you look at a “Spirit” it freezes you for a second in time and drains all warmth as it forces you see only the things that remind you of that color. Wow.
As for choosing, the benefit is that you don’t have to say never, you just have to say later. The downside is the exact same. But might as well throw in at least one burst of springy or summery warmth for the times when it’s so bitterly cold and dreary that we need a reminder of the happiness that will return.
Otherwise, there’s always the random number generator to help you choose. No matter what, we’ll all swoon at your color prowess.
Do you think the twitching I felt when I read the phrase random number generator says something about the level of control I might need here?

And Hwy30 will always be one of my faves as it was the first blue moon sock I made!! Its slightly too big, but still….one of my faves!

With his eyes glowing in the pic, I’m reminded of that trickster rabbit in Watership Down. (Even with googling, it’ll take too much work to spell it, let alone try to pronounce it.)
And going into cheesy allegory, instead of the random number generator, there’s always the pick the rabbit(color name)-out-of-the-hat trick.

Maybe people don’t fully appreciate the colorway Highway 30 until they take the beautiful drive that is Highway 30? Go with your gut. You are brilliant, trust yourself.
Wow, I would love to see your “wall of color”….sounds like a wonderful place of inspiration. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!! On the note of color rotation…it’s just a necessary sacrafice that we make–as long as they’ll come back someday….
