Susurrate Shawl

The story of a shawl and the birth of a designer!!

A little over a year ago I got an email from my dear friend Cara ( aka January One) asking me if I was interested in working with her on a design she was had a vision for that she was slightly obsessed with. I am pretty much always game to work on pretty much anything with Cara. I believe in her and we usually have all kinds of fun! Also… I was super intrigued by what she sent me in her email.

*****************************************

“So I’m trying my hand at designing a brioche shawl. I’ve had this idea in my head for forever and I can’t get it out so I’m putting it to needles and yarn. I’m attaching a picture of what I have so far. I’m using the leftovers from my eyeball shawl. My idea is that it’s a tree, with branches at the top that flow into big leaves then smaller leaves which flows into flowers and buds at the bottom and then a flower-ish border. If you like what I have so far, want to talk about yarn? I want to use lightweight. ❤️❤️❤️❤️”

I was interested. No, that’s not correct, I was hooked. I mean look at that initial photo. Also I know my friend and I knew she would knit her vision into a stunning reality so…of she went.

And Susurrate was born!

I received the first swatch picture in the middle on May and then this finished one on July 3rd. Now it does not look like it in this picture but susurrate is not a small shawl. It uses close to 1620 yards of Sock that Rock Lightweight. And that my friends is a lot of stitches to put together to match a vision. I loved being a part of this process with her, hearing her ideas, thoughts and the challenges. Watching her find what worked and what did not and then how to implement it all. I know from my own creative process that matching your vision to reality is not always an simple or easy process. It takes perseverance, a good deal of patience and often thinking outside of the box. I know for me I will not let go until I know I have achieved exactly what I had in mind. Often (at least for me) that takes going the extra stitch with a fair amount of ripping back and maybe even walking away to gain some perspective. It often means we have to challenge ourselves to step outside of our comfort zone and knowledge base. Take a look at this design and imagine writing the pattern for this.

Based on everything Cara shared with me about her vision and inspiration ( her dear grandmother) I feel like she knocked this out of the park! I am so very proud and excited for my friend.

I was stunned speechless when I saw that first picture of the finished piece. I knew she  would create something wonderful. I did not doubt it for one second. That said the reality of it is breathtakingly magnificent.

Cara, thank you for letting me be a small part of your process. I am thrilled I got to witness all of this creative goodness from the beginning! I can’t wait to see all of the color variations of Susurrate we all knit up!

Enchanted Forest and Empyreal are the colors shown here

We are doing a KAL!! Of course with such and epic knit wonder the needs to be a knit-a-long! Check out Cara’s rav page for the details. The KAL starts on July 19th . We wanted plenty of time for us to get your yarn to you.

We are running a 15% discount until the KAL starts. The coupon code is: susurrate19

We recommend you order your yarn asap!!

You need a fair amount of contrast between the two colors you choose.

Also  please read what Cara writes about yarn usage. Cara used  4 skeins of Socks that Rock Lightweight but did not have a lot left (hardly any) and had already done the swatching so this does not leave a lot of room for swatching so… please keep that in mind.As always I am available for color help selection.

Here are a few. I am going to pick a speckled or multicolorway and then list a few shaded solids that go with, that give what I think is a good amount of contrast to highlight Cara’s tree pattern.

Chintz and Giggles:  Aquarius  * Cariblue * Bluebird of Happiness * Coral * Ophelia * Lover’s Leap * Pistachio * Everyday Grey * Rosebud * Lean Mean Aubergine * Maroon 5 *  There are a whole ot of shaded solids that will work with this on it really is what floats your boat and has enough contrast!

Oola Pikka :  KMBFLA * Bladerunner * Bleck * Ophelia * Smoke on the Water * Pistachio * Copperline * Oscar’s Grouchy Green * Spruced

Plumpy Sun Angle:  Aquarius * Blue Bird of Happiness * Coral Queen * Harold Purple Crayon * Lean Mean Aubergine * Boysenberry * Green Wing * Electric Blue * Chillaxin * Motley Hue * Marron 5 * Forget Me Not Blue * Sun Salutations

Phaedra: Coral Queen * Robin’s Egg Blue * Shoqua * Maroon 5 * Moldy Peaches

Okay more to come…

I am so grateful to Kalia, Sarah and Crystal for being a true team!

Since we did not get to really celebrate last week we are extending things into this week.

The coupon code is still good and will be all week!!

15% of all yarns! CODE is:  birtdaystashparty

Our first fun game/contest is on instagram

We would like you to post a picture that you would like us to make into a colorway. You can put a description with it if you like telling us it’s story or just post the picture.

Please use the hashtags #bluemoonfiberarts and #colorwayphotocontest. Also if you do not already follow us it would be helpful if you did.

We will pick 5 pictures ( which will be super hard) I will create the colorways and each of the winners gets a skein of their colorway as a prize!!!!

So much fun.

Okay…see you on instagram!!

Happy Monday!!!!

Birthday week went wonky!

okay so last week is a vague memory. I had all these grand plans for games and contests and well…none of that happened. As most of you know we are down a dyer which leaves us with one besides me. And that one (Crystal) was sick all week so…that left me. Yuppers!

Now Kalia and Sarah did their best to help and they did awesome jobs helping out. I am so very grateful for the both of them, they are such team players!!!

As I said last week I have hired a new dyer but she will not be here for another week so please bear with us.  I am a firm believer in making the best of what we are given in life. It is all about our attitudes. I know it is corny as hell but it’s true when life gives you lemons then you squeeze every last drop of juice out of those little suckers and make the drink of your choice. Because you are probably going to need the sustenance to rise to the challenge you have been given.

So we are rising to this latest challenge and doing our very best to get your yarn as fast as we can dye it. I am also trying my best to keep up on emails.

I seriously appreciate your compassion and patience!

I am hoping to get some of those fun and games this week. And I’ll extend the birthday discount code for another week.

So one of the contests I want to do is a instagram photo colorway contest. You post a picture to instagram that you would like to see made into a colorway. Use the hashtags #bluemoonfiberarts  #colorwayphotocontest . Team Blue Moon will choose 5 of the pictures to make into colorways and then those people win a skein of their colorway!!!!!! Be sure to use the hashtags and then also tag us @bluemoonfiberarts so we can see your pics.

okay I need to go to bed.

Birthday Week!!!

Screen Shot 2018-05-04 at 3.59.41 PM

Life has been so busy and intense I was just going to skip anything birthday related. And then I was reminded that I am blessed to be here to celebrate getting a year older so here we are. Also for the first time in my 62 years waltzing the planet I have a friend who shares this day with me. I know!! Crystal Rose who right now is the only Blue Moon dyer besides yours truly was also was born on May 29th. Oh my goodness now that I actually type that, it’s pretty funny both (and the only) Blue Moon dyers right now are both Gemini’s.

Okay I could go on and on with duo puns but we’ll move on.

Gemini Queens

Crystal and I decided we would come up with a Gemini colorway together. We both LOVE green and are pretty fond of our new Forget Me Not Blue shaded solid with it’s hints of periwinkle and greens. We made a new green just for this colorway. Emerald City green is vibrant and lovely and the perfect companion to Forget Me Not Blue. Do you see how when that green lightens it turns a lovely spearmint color. Move over Pond Scum cause there is a seriously sexy green in town.

Since my birthday colorways are usually very bright and colorful I also did another birthday colorway that basically has ALL of the colors in it. Seriously so very many colors. Look at them all.

#happybirthday is a colorway that says hey I am 62 and… I have met all the challenges sent my way this year with strength, perseverance and grace.  I celebrate all of life!!

We usually offer birthday specials and games for about a week. I also considered not doing this since we are short handed and a wee bit behind. Again I think celebrating an projecting the positive is always the way to go!!!

So for the next few days we are offering a 15% birthday special on all yarns. Let’s call is a Birthday Stash Enhancement Party!! So if you order yarn that you have a deadline on please let us know when you order it.

Coupon code is: birthdaystashparty

We should be through all of this soon. I hired a new dyer on Friday but she can’t start right away. Oh… in case some of you do not know we had one of our dyers leave unexpectedly which has made us seriously short handed. Also she had been out a lot before she left so her absence had already impacted things.

Anyway I am so very excited about the woman we have hired to join our team. We have sent loads of emails out about your orders and have shipped tons of yarn. Our latest shipment of sock yarn is here so more will go our including clubs and such.

Check out instagram for some birthday fun and games!! And check back here all week.  We are going to do a photo colorway contest on instagram which should be all kinds of fun.

All orders placed until May 30th will be shipped out with a little surprise.

If you feel like sharing what is your best birthday story I would so love to hear it.

Thank you for sharing your fiber lives with me!

You are such a gift!!!

Blue Flower Moon & YAK is back!!!!!!!

YAK is Back!!!

KOgoing4goldCU (1)

Our original sport weight Yaksi is back!!

It’s taken a few years but persistence and patience have paid off and here we are. I am so very very happy that this yummy yarn that we love is back. Especially at a this point in time when we have had to say goodbye of some of our other yarn loves. I so love this yarn. I love how soft it is and how it knits up and the fabric it makes but one of my absolute favorite things about it is how it takes the dye. Since it starts out a creamy oatmeal color  from the YAK fiber and a little from the Tussah silk.  As you can see from the photo it deepens the color and adds a bit of a heather aspect ~ so very rich!!

We are offering it at a little bit of a discount for the first few weeks. So don’t wait to give this lovely yarn a try!! I am in the middle of adding colors to the offerings so if you have a color that is not there that you want to see let me know. We are going to offer it mostly in Shaded Solids.  I would not recommend Speckles for this one!

Hey do you know what today is besides Saturday?! It is our May Full Moon and it is a Blue Moon and…not a traditional one. Usually we think of a Blue Moon as the second full moon in a month and this one is not that. However there can be a seasonal Blue Moon which is 4 full moons in a season which is 3 months period which is what this. It’s quite fascinating and if you are interested there’s more here. May Blue Moon.

IMG_4698

Full Flower Blue Moon!!  Our May colorway in homage to our Full Moons. A very floral full moon colorway. (Get it?)

Okay me dear friends I am off to the barn for a weekend of dyeing.  We have been down a dyer for almost two weeks now which as most of you know has put us behind yet again. I am bound and determined to get out of this so it’s a weekend in the barn as a solo dyer. It’s actually how I started all of this so… .

Did you all see the stash enhancing dye day class we have coming up. We all have skeins in our stash that maybe caught our eye at one time or another but now maybe they do not speak to us as much. So this is a great chance to make this skeins somethings that makes our hearts sing and our want to knit it. It is sure to be a great time. Dyeing is ALL kinds of fun. You will also learn dye basics and be the dyer that revitalized your stash. How sustainable of you!!

Oh and did you know that the 23rd of May is Drinking with Chickens Day??

yeah… I kid you not!!

Have a great weekend!

Mothers

Okay guys this is going to be a long one so pour yourself a beverage and settle in.

First of all an orders, clubs and shipping check in.

We are a little behind on our 15 business day promise on some of the orders still . Yes we are waiting for yarn which will be here this week. If we have part of your order done we are shipping that so that you have something! If you have a deadline please do let us know.

I do send emails but we are getting caught in firewalls I think. Some get through and some do not. We are changing things up so bear with us. Working on a brand new website right now!!!!!!!!!!!! I know, way past time for this one.

We also were hit by some stomach thing that pretty much knocked us all out, even me. It was bad! I will spare you the details. I have been a little concerned about the amount of sickness we’ve experienced in the past year but then I remembered that this team of mine has little ones and well… .

RSC also is a week later than I promised because of all of this.

Soft rock is out of stock until the middle of July and we had no notification of this!

Karen is in the middle of a move. I big one! So we are going to move the Silky Victoria/Everyday Cardigan  KAL  to my birthday week. I actually wish I had thought of this earlier. I love the idea of a KAl on my birthday!!!!! Also all of those Silky Victoria orders will come with some silk hankies so we can all knit or crochet a little silk scarf to go with our cardigans. I was dyeing some hankies for a store order and thought it would be a lovely addition to our Silky Victoria experience. I am also on a “knit or crochet silk hankies” mission, like hard core to you are forewarned.

I mentioned the new website. It’s a lot of work and a bunch of it is work I have to do because I’m doing the photo work. I want this one to be so much better and more visible. They are going to look like this.

DancingQueen

So you will have the way it was dyed next to it re-skeined with the colors dispersed so you have an idea as to how they will knit up. I am also your customer service person right now so please bear with me. I am not ignoring you! I’m just wearing many hats!!

MOTHER’S DAY!!

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day. I know we all experience this day differently. I know for myself I feel the grief because my mom is no longer here. Our relationship was not and easy one so my grief is complicated. The on the other side is I am the mother to three beautiful souls that I love so very much. Being a mother has been the best part of my life. I just loved pretty much everything about it up. well that is not quite true. My girls are both living on the east coast right now and it is way too far away.

I miss them so very much!! I know the whole idea is they grow up and move out into the world and I could not be prouder of all three of them. Just wishing they were closer to Scappoose!!

Today my youngest graduates from college and moves onto medical school.

IMG_4652

Her brother and I could not be there. However her sister took the train down from New York to be with her and we watched it on you tube and group texted while we watched. Certainly not the same as being there but still good.

My girls today celebrating this milestone together!

So dear ones I hope your day tomorrow is full of love and that what ever mother loss you experience is bearable. Please do know you are not alone.

I know some of you are waiting on yarn (it is coming!!)  but…I can’t let the day go without a Mother’s Day gift from Blue Moon to you.

So we are offering a Mother’s Day 10% on all yarns this moment until midnight on Monday the 13th and… whiles supplies last any order over 60.00 get one of these YARN CHICKEN PINS from JAM PDX.

COUPON CODE: MOTHERSROCK19

We have 60 so once they are gone they are gone!!!

Consider this a Mother’s Day Stash Enhancement moment!! If you need to have a yarn plan in mind I want to start a blanket project KAL . A KAL that goes for the rest of the year, after all it is a blanket!  Knit or crochet. I am going to crochet one. I know… . It’s no small thing because I can’t really crochet so this will be an expanding my horizons moment. I am determined. I love crochet and have quite a thing for the granny square so I am going to conquer this one.  I might need help. At the very least some hand holding.

Treat yourself or your mom or both!! You can get something to knit for your mom and surprise her on  a day when she needs it.

I love those moments don’t you?

Have a beautiful day!!!

Why lots are important.

Okay before we go into why lots are important. I have taken the colorways down I told you I would and put up some of our favorites. A few of these have not been up on the website for awhile. I’m pretty excited to see them.

So as I said in the last post we are having a contest of sorts. The first person that can list all of the colorways I just added wins a Rare Gem skein. You can email your guess to us at info@bluemoonfiberarts.com .

Please put “Colorway Contest” in the subject line of your email. Thanks!

*****************************

We all know about dye lots and how important it is to order or purchase enough yarn for your project in the same lot, especially if you are knitting a garment. Well my knitting friends the same is true for yarn lots and here is why.

One LOT of yarn is basically 1 MILL RUN of that yarn. ONE MILL RUN LOT would be made from all the same wool/top and then spun at the same time and plied then also to the specs of that yarn.  Most mills will keep the singles and then ply the yarn as needed. Each time that happens it should be marked as a different lot since the ply could be different. You would think that it would not be different enough to matter but in fact it is. ( Ask me how I know?)

I will never, ever forget when my second big order of Socks that Rock walked in the door. I opened the box, pulled out the skeins buried my face in them and then gave them a squeeze. And to my surprise they felt a little different. The yarn was a little softer than the last shipment we had. I was like okay let’s see what it dyes like. It pretty much dyed the same but it was most definitely the tiniest bit softer with a fraction ( and I mean a fraction) less boing to it. I might have freaked out a wee bit. I called my supplier and told them they had it all wrong and what did they do and so on and so forth.

It was then that I got schooled on different LOTS and how wool is a living growing thing. While we do as much as we can to recreate a yarn to the specs we have for that yarn there is going to be some variation. It might be a variation that most are not going to notice but sometimes it can be a bit more. Which is why each new lot is tested when it walks in our door so we know what we are working with.

As most of you know we recently ran a super Special on our BFL Sport since it was being discontinued. We put a special pricing on it and also decided to a do a KAL with one of our favorite patterns. Midway through dyeing massive amounts of BFL we discovered that we were sent 2 differing lots that were not marked as such. yeah…

Now, the difference between the two was not great. And…unfortunately it was not a difference we could see before it was dyed. If we had an order with 1 skein of each of three differing colors you would not notice either. We had a lots of those orders because that was what the KAL called for. It was when we had a garments worth of the same color that the difference was visible. Say there were 5 skeins all dyed in one color. You could see that 3 were from one lot and 2 were from the other. Now let’s take a moment and think about that and what it might mean production wise on a yarn that was already discounted and we had a ton of orders for. Yeah…I might have shed a tear or two.  So… we took a minute to regroup and problem solve.

The difference was one lot was tighter plied than the other. The end gauge was the same so that was not an issue. Phew!!! The issue was that the color looked just a bit different. Which for sweater knitting is a problem. So we could not ship those out to you.

IMG_4548

(You see the difference both in the ply and the color yes?)

What we discovered was if we soaked the yarn, spun it out and then dried it we could see the difference between the lots before dyeing!!! Yay Kalia for coming up with that plan. While we were thrilled to have a plan it did add a whole other step to the process slowing everything down. Adding more labor also adds more cost. Adding another step that delays all orders not just the BFL also adds more customer service for us.

Why am I sharing this with you? I am not sharing to complain. Although, in all honest after the year we have had I did having my whining moment or two with a good friend and a bottle of wine. I have been in this industry for at least 20 years and know these things happen. I will say it does seem to be happening more and more lately. Also, if you run a small business you know that this kind of problem-solving rolling with the punches is just how things can go. Dyers are often the last process/person before it goes to your local yarn store and/or into your hands. Something that is interesting to consider in relationship to the end product and the controls we have.

I am sharing all this with you so we all have a better understanding of what goes into the making and dyeing of the yarn that we create with. There are many steps and people involved from shepherd to yarn store owner. I think it is important to know exactly what goes into what we are working with. When we pick up a skein of yarn off a shelf we are not really considering all that goes into bringing that skein to us.

Okay I have at least 5 more things to do today and it is already 2:00 so off I go.

Thanks for listening!

Pink Moss Moon and some deep yarn thoughts!

It’s the full moon this weekend (yesterday actually) which means it’s time for a new moon color for our Monthly Full Moon Collection. April’s full moon is often referred to as the pink moon, named for the pink moss phlox that are spring’s earliest flowers in the eastern US.

As I  was putting the chickens to rest Thursday evening I received a special gift from the moon that pretty much took my breath away.IMG_4461

Look at how pink it is!! Actually you can;t see it here but there was a bit of a moon-bow. I have not seen one for quite awhile so I felt moon blessed. I dyes our pink moon and pale pink with a lovely blue green to represent the evergreen trees that the moon rises over before it lights up my front yard.

IMG_4476

I’m loving the pink and green together, such a nice Spring feel to it. And since I was having light Spring color thoughts I decided we needed an Easter color.

IMG_4491

Easter Parade!! Reminiscent of the egg hunts, bonnets, and parades of my childhood!!

So very Springy!

Are you ready for our next yarn base exploration?!

In waltzes our lovely Silky Victoria.  My goodness, look at the ply and sheen on this beauty in our Elderberry Cordial colorway.

Silky Victoria, is a delicious light and lofty blend of South American Polwarth Wool and Tussah Silk. Silky Victoria is the 4th garment yarn base we added to our line. The 3rd one was called Victoria and was the same spin, ply and weight as this one but was 100% Polwarth and one of my favorite yarns. I love Polwarth second only to Targhee.

Similar to the Targhee breed, the Polwarth breed is a cross between a  longwool (Lincoln) and a shorter staple fine wool (Merino). Weighing in with 85% Polwarth and 15% Tussah Silk, our Silky Victoria has just enough silk to add strength, silky softness, a tiny bit of drape and last, but not least, luminosity. Look at the sheen. make sure you click on the picture here to make it a bigger so you can really see that shine. The silk adds to what the Polwarth brings to this fiber blend with is so much loft and elasticity which gives us great bounce back for ease and wonderful stitch definition.

Silky Victoria is such a great garment yarn. Why you ask? Well, because of everything I have just told you and… also, because that 15% silk on a sport-weight yarn makes it light enough for a year round sweater. Silk has that magical quality that cools and warms both. I know!! Pretty great.

Color-wise even though the silk is well blended in with the Polwarth before spinning is still gives us a depth to the color we would not otherwise experience.  Silk not only takes the dye/color differently than our wooly Polwarth friend it also reflects it more that our wool, even more silk magic! All of which gives our color quite a bit of depth and complexity.

Have you knit with our Silky Victoria? If not now is your chance. Our Silky Victoria Special starts now.

15% off with the coupon code: silkyvicrocks

Also…because we do like to have pattern support for our yarn and projects in mind we are going to host another KAL.

I have mentioned before Meaghan Schmaltz’s Everyday Cardigan. I seriously love this cardigan. It works well on all kinds of shapes and sizes. And not only does it look great it is also super cozy and…it flipping has pockets! Because it was introduced with all of the shows and yarn crawl I feel like it did not get the attention it deserved. So now we are going to highlight it with our Silky Victoria in a KAL.

Not only is Meaghan a talented and inspired designer she is also a tech editor so she knows her way around a pattern. It’s all in the details! Be sure to check size and yardage needs before purchasing your yarn!

Since our KALS tend to be popular and it takes us a bit to dye your yarn and get it to you so… we suggest you order it sooner rather than later. We will start the KAL the 2nd weekend in June which should give us plenty of time to get your yarn to you. Because most of you will ask what colorway Meaghan used it is Motley Hue and is stunning! We recommend using our shaded solids for this cardigan. Also the Ravens and Coven would work well. Even though I truly think Silky Victoria looks good in any of our colorways here are some of my favorites: Motley Hue, Ursula, Mermaid Tears, Spruced, Mica, Rose Quartz, Bleck, Forget Me Knot Blue, Blue the New Black, Midsummer’s Night… to name a few.

The 15% coupon will be good for the next week and then will move to 10% for another week.  I do hope you will join us. As I have said I learned a lot from our BFL Sport discontinuation and the special and KAL. So we are going to do our part to give as much support to the yarns bases we love so we can assure they are around for as long as we ant them to be.

So now the yarn ball is in your court my friends.

So…on theoff chance the KAL does not speak to you but you would still like the delve into out Silky Victoria yarn exploration Julie Knits in Paris just released a pattern for a lovely cardigan knit is a sport weight yarn.

I have been having all sorts of chats and meetings with others on our industry about sustaining our industry and being stewards to insure the life and quality of those who make, dye, sell, design with and makes shows for us all to go. I will be writing a whole lot more about my thoughts and plans about the things like the Sustainable Stash and Yarn Stewardship so stay tuned

In the end though please know we all do what we do for you. Without our crocheters, spinners, felters, weavers, stitchers, knitters…we are nothing.  If our industry is lead by anyone it is by you.

Okay this is getting long so I should wind up.

oh I almost forgot… before I go we are going to also run fiber specials for our spinners this summer. So for the following week on Polwarth (yes there is a theme) will be on Special at 10% off. Coupon code is: spinpolwarth  Polwarth make a stunning yarn and takes the dye beautifully. It is one of my favorite blends to spin!!! Can you imagine spinning Polwarth in Coral Dreamer or Pink Moss Moon?!!!!

okay lovelies I hope you have a great weekend full of love and stitches.

I am going to leave you with this picture of  SilkMo dyed in our Coral Dreamer colorway. I am possessed with this!! Just possessed.

Yarn thoughts…

Okay so the title of this post is cracking me up. I mean really aren’t all of these blog posts of mine yarn thoughts. Before we go any further though LOOK!!!!! Pickled Eggs in Super Sparkle might be the best thing ever!!!

I was supposed to post this earlier this week about our La Luna yarns and the special on them that we are running. However I had a few people out sick so I was in the barn all week and by the time I was done answering emails and such after dyeing all day I just did not have it to blog. So here we are. We will keep the Special up for another week since I dropped the yarn ball on my end of the bargain.

As a reminder the special is on all three weights of La Luna which means there is something for everyone. The coupon code is: lalunalove  which is good until next Sunday and is good for 20% off.

Okay what is so great about La Luna. Well the first thing is that is a blend of silk and merino and not just any merino but a high grade fine merino. We love soft yarns and a fine merino makes a great soft yarn however that fineness also means that the if your yarn is not constructed well it will not wear well and could also pill and fuzz. Also the finer the yarn the smaller the scales and the scales are what dye adheres to so it also affects how it takes and keeps the color.  So let’s blend in some silk to give that fine merino a little more stability and strength and… a whole lot of shine. Always, in yarn construction it is about just the right amount of blending. How much silk is the right amount? You want to add just enough to support the merino which is what we have done with La Luna. And then we have spun and plied so it keeps it’s elasticity giving us great stitch definition. Also if knit more open just enough drape without slippage! All while retaining that softness!  A perfect blend of fibers spun to enhance their natural tendency’s!!

I truly love this yarn. I thought my favorite of the weights was the fingering weight but right now I am knitting with the DK and seriously loving the the feel of it as I knit and the fabric it is creating. A fabric that has a silky softness, a nice amount of ease and is making my knitting just shine!! Look at that color!!

Both La Luna Lace and La Luna Fingering are on the heavier ends of those weight spectrums. I wanted a lace weight yarn that was a little heavier since some of us are a little hesitant about using true lace weights but do love those lace patterns.

Pattern ideas!

La Luna DK: Pretty much any pattern that uses DK weight yarn. Here are two current patterns in RVS top 20.

These are just a few ideas. Really there are so many more. All three of these weights would make super cozy and wonderful hats. Do you know about Hats NOT Hate with Lion Brand and Brooklyn Boy Knits ?

Stand up to bullying! Knit a blue hate! Donate a Blue Hate! Post all over social media and spread the word and the vibe!! There’s plenty of time! La Luna would be the perfect yarn for blue hats! I am dyeing some Tardis Blue for my hats. Let’s have our won Team Blue Moon for Hats NOT Hate!!

Okay my friends the sun is shining and it is SUNDAY so I am going to spend sometime in the garden getting the indigo beds ready!

New Colors!!

Look!!! I made new colors! I know it’s been awhile since I have felt light enough to be color inspired. Getting caught up or close to it certainly helps. I am pretty excited about these.

I was really inspired by this months Super Worm Moon and not in a way I would’ve predicted. I actually was quite stumped as to translate a worm moon into a colorway for yarn and then add the fact that is was a super worm moon. So much pressure!! I think I got it though. The light purple with the brown and gold and then that dark blue black giving it that bruiser of a look. I am pretty smitten with this one. Which I think kind spiraled and reawakened my color mojo. I even created tow new colors to go with out Super Worm Moon to make another Moon Trio.  I don’t think you can see it from this picture but the Grounded colorway has streaks of that purple all throughout those browns and golds and then on the lighter end a more light purple skein (Andalusite) with those golds and browns streaked through it.

As much as I love my full moon wormy earthy hues. I think my favorite of this bunch is Pickled Eggs! My grandmother Winnie always had a jar or two of eggs pickling. She kept them on the attic stairs. They were bright and happy and absolutely delicious. She used beet juice in her picking so they were super bright and a little spicy (cayenne). They looked a lot like these beauties.

I know my skeins are a little pinker then the eggs in this picture but my grans were super pink so I went with what I my visual memory has and my taste buds too. Winnie like her cayenne. My hens are laying like crazy so maybe I need to make up a batch of pickled eggs. Yum!!!

And since I had the hot bright pink out I decided to play with some black and aqua and bam we have Chasing Flamingos which one of our facebook followers named. Such a great name! So thanks for the great name Sophia.

Which brings us to the Delta Blues. And again Winnie plays a small part in this one. Been missing my grandmother so I guess I am channeling her through color which she would love! I am working a lot more on layering colors to creating more complex hues with depth and surprises that you might only see once you start knitting. Grounded most definitely has some crazy layering of color ~ browns, gold, orange and purple. I know! Do you know how much purple and brown love each other?  So… much.

Which bring us to our last new colorway of the weekend Empyreal which means: of or relating to the sky or heavens ~ celestial. Our Cara named it since it is a colorway I made just for her and this crazy cool and stunning design she has been working on. If you have not seen it you are going to love it and be seriously impressed. She uses Socks that Rock Lightweight in Enchanted Forest and Empyreal. When Cara asked me to create this color she told me she wanted Enchanted Forest for the  forest canopy and then she needed that sky that we see through it. I love Cara quite a bit so I thought long and hard about what it needed to be. I am glad I did not rush the process because we are bot so very happy with how it all turned out and I so love the name she chose since it embodies what we were trying to create and is the perfect match for Enchanted Forest!! The pattern is called Sussurate and at this point in it’s creative life it is with the tech editor and test knitters.

So much color!! It must be Spring!

Okay so a little news. We made serious headway this week and see light at the end of this tunnel so thank you so very very much for hanging in there with us.

We are almost done with all of the BFL Sport and and both sock club shipments. Dyeing all of that BFL was quite a job since they are 8 ounce skeins. Holy moly!! We are working on web orders and Our of the Hue color club along with our LYS orders.

If you have been waiting to purchase Seduction and Panda now is your time for on Monday we will be saying goodbye to both of these yarns. We are also just about out of BFL SPORT so that will also be coming down. Thank you all so very much for helping us give this yarn the send off it deserved. I can honestly say that other then when we were all knitting the Traveling Sweater with Woobu have we had such a successful garment yarn special. It has left me wondering if it was a combination of the pricing special and that the yarn was leaving or just that the yarn was leaving. I am on a mission to make sure we do not loose anymore of our beloved yarns so I am going to be more proactive in making sure we support them so the mill will keep making them for us. I will need you help so stay tuned my fiber loving friends.

Okay so I am posting this blog post and some of the new colorways are not quite up yet. That’s my next job.
