Yarn

Isn’t that funny? I didn’t want to title a post with News, again or, Update.   Actually it’s more, Your yarn….to be exact.

Anyway I just wanted to give everyone who ordered at the sale (and since) an update on how we are progressing. We are almost caught up.

Phew!!  That was a mega ton of yarn to dye (I almost put a period there and then I heard Denise say, “hey…and let’s not forget rinse and hang and inspect and bundle and tag and package and ship”) .  All jobs we love I might add.  I spent part of this weekend rinsing and hanging to dry which is so much fun. You get to see the magic as  you pull it from the spinning cycle. Seriously cool.

All of the ALL Website sale orders will leave here by tomorrow. If you ordered during that time and do not see that your order has shipped that means that we weren’t happy with it for one reason or another and sent it back to the dyers. The rest will be coming through this week and we hope to have most of it shipped by Thursday.

We really appreciate your patience during these sales. I know it’s hard to wait for one’s yarn.

If you need color help for the Mystery Knit-along don’t be shy it really is great fun to help pick colors and I have them all here at my fingertips. Well… most of them anyway. I’m so excited. I think later today I’ll go out and do some more hue paring and post them here tomorrow.

I’m going to leave you with a question.

I have been wanting to do a spinning club for awhile now and am working on making that happen soonish. As I plan and gather I’d like to know what you’d like to see from a Blue Moon Spinning Club.

Ok back to the barn with me and again thank you so much for your support and patience.

I would sign up for a spinning club in a heartbeat!

One of my favorite clubs lets you pick from a couple of fiber options, such as BFL base (might be dark, or white, or that fabulous dark & white, or maybe BFL/silk, might change monthly, might be the same base for the duration, but whatever it is, there’s BFL), or merino base (100% merino, merino/silk, merino/tencel, etc.), or luxury (camel/cashmere/silk/etc.). And silk! I think a 100% silk club would be fabulous! I also like those clubs that let me order more after I’ve seen that month’s colorway (I confess, though, I’ve only done this a couple of times, but knowing I can do this makes me happy). I’ve also learned over the years that 8oz. is my minimum when it comes to wool. Every other month works well for me, but that’s because I have a little excess inventory stuffed into my garage. And the truck. And under my desk at work 😉

Oh. My. Goodness. I would go crazy over a fiber club. The only club I’ve ever been a part of has been the RSC and I’m a fairly new spinner so I have zero experience with spinning clubs. However, I think SpindleMonkey sounds like they know what they are talking about. 🙂 8 oz sounds like a good amount of fiber to accommodate lots of different spinning styles/goals. The option to purchase more if desired would be nice. I don’t think I would want an all silk spinning club, but having different fiber combos each shipment or options would be nice, I do not want to spin Merino for everything. Somehow pairing a colorway/fiberblend/spinning ‘plan’ with a knitting pattern would be really neat, too. I like the description that comes with the Sheep2Shoe kits on how to spin a good sock yarn.

OMFG!!!! I would be ALL OVER a spinning club! Would love lots of different fiber with a note about the fiber and the best way to spin it (maybe a joint effort with Judith?). Maybe some locks to spin in and some other fun stuff. I agree with 8 oz of fiber. This would be awesome!!!!!

I love the idea of a Spin/Fiber Club. 4 oz would be my minimum of any given fiber. I like the idea of having a choice of a group of colorways and a choice of fibers with each installment. I’m a luxury fiber “snob”. Some of my favorite fibers are: Merino, BFL, Silk, Cashmere, Alpaca and even Yak! I wouldn’t mind trying blends with some Cotton, Linen, Hemp, Bamboo but wouldn’t want any of those to be the primary fiber in a blend. I don’t like any form of “non-natural” such as nylon and similar fibers. There could possibly be a “Basics” club which would have just one fiber in each offering of a group of colorways and there could be a second option of “Blends” where the colorways would be offered in different blends. Just some random thoughts on things I like and think would offer lots of options for everyone 😉 Thanks for thinking of us spinners!

I would love a fiber club from Blue Moon. One thing I would like to see is some ideas on how to spin the yarn and then a pattern for a finished object. I have many skeins of spun yarn because I love the spinning process and like playing with different spinning and plying techniques, but what I lack is the ability to “see” how to use the yarn I’ve spun. I know that people say to have a project in mind before you begin, but simply that is not the way my brain works. I have to plan and execute so many other things in my life that, well, spinning just becomes my get away from all of that. For example I’m looking at a “bee hive” yarn I made and wonder “what could I make from that yarn that would show off the bee hive.” But I have no answer. So having ideas from the club to incorporate a pattern with a technique would be AWESOME. 4oz of fiber is a good amount for both my attention span and wallet. I would like the option to purchase more if I want to plan a bigger project, though. I would love to sign up for a fiber club from Blue Moon! Oh, I already said that…

I think it’s a great idea and one that will suit many of your customers. Unfortunately, I toil not, neither do I spin.

    Cheers and red wine, Hazel.
